Porter's at Union Station is a wonderful place in a unique location. This used to be an old rail road station and now it is a spacious restaurant. They stock excellent and diverse wines and the food is top notch. During special dining holidays (ie Valentine's Day), they keep the tables spaced apart and try to maintain a lovely dining experience instead of attempting to cram as many tables as possible. The wait staff is knowledgeable and they know just the right amount of service. Highly recommended.

This Canadian based franchise is locally owned by a couple that brought their Canadian roots to Erie. I love Erie being a "Hockey Town" and the addition of 2 Tim Horton's restaurants just confirms that we are that way to stay!
Their baked goods are wonderful and their double chocolate cheesecake is to die for!!! Let's not talk calories... just flavor... it will make the conversation much 'lighter'!!!
Of course they are known for their wonderful donuts, and my favorites are the timbits, but they offer so much more. They have a wonderful baked goods case filled with muffins, cakes, donuts, cheesecakes and more. Better yet, go for an entire dinner that includes a bowl of hot soup, always fresh, an awesome sandwich. These aren't your burger joint style burgers... far from it. They offer some great varieties of sandwiches on a great bun for an excellent taste.
While at first glance the prices seem a little high for a 'meal deal' you have to put it into perspective... you are getting the entire meal.. including dessert. You also have to remember you get what you pay for with excellent products with great flavor. Nothing run of the mill from this chain restaurant.
I'd recommend it for everything from a quick drive thru breakfast to a nice sit down dinner with friends and family. Drive thru is open 24 hours too!

What Halloween party would be complete without some fresh apple cider to wash down those yummy, sugary donuts?!
Erie is lucky enough to boast one of the best apple cider mills ever, but don't hesitate as their season is short and the cider goes quick!
Furhman's Cider Mill has been a staple for many families in the Erie area. While I feared that the newer pasteurizing laws would change their flavor, they've managed not only to keep that great tasting cider flowing from their taps but now you don't have to fear the possible health hazards of unpasteurized cider!
Along with picking up a gallon or two of cider at the Mill, you can visit their bakery and fruit stand. Take your own container in for a little discount each time or just pick up one of their containers and reuse it over and over as you get refills! Don't forget to try out their different 'flavors' of cider that they've created by adding some other fruit flavors! And my favorite part, you can pick up individual containers to drink along the way if you decide to go out for a Sunday drive!
Fuhrman's Cider is truly the best there is!

I have to say, Wegman's is truly the best supermarket in Erie. The produce is top rate. I've never gotten anything bad out their produce section, unlike other grocery stores around. Their bakery is wonderful. I love the huge array of breads to chose from. The sub shop makes the best subs in town, fresh and delicious. Very affordable too! I don't eat at the Chinese bar they have, simply because I do think it's much cheaper to go to one of the many Chinese buffets that are nearby, but I have had a few items off the Chinese bar and they're very good.
The sales they run are usually pretty good and pretty much keep the prices on level with the other stores around. The service is where they stand out. I truly have NEVER had a bad clerk or service person while shopping at Wegman's. Any time I have a problem, they quickly and with a smile, fix it. Forget your Wegman's card? The service desk quickly looks it up for you to use or if you're simply using it for the discounts, they come up to the register and read the store copy so you get the discounts.
I can't say enough about the pick up service. While many stores say they have 'take out service' they generally look at you like you have a third eye when you say "Can I have someone take this out for me?". I have a bad back and there is nothing more wonderful than knowing I can simply say "this is for take out please". They slap a sticker on your bag, give you a matching sticker and off your groceries go. The young men there to load your car up never seem to mind and are always very careful to load things properly. A small tip each time I use them lets them know I truly appreciate their service.
Wegman's is all about service and the customer! This can't truly be said about any other store in Erie. So even if it means a few cents more on a few items.. it's well worth it!

These subs are unlike most others. My favorite is the turkey but they offer quite an array of sub varieties. You can get seeded or unseeded, fresh sub rolls and all of the subs are made to order. Reasonably priced for the huge portions you get and quickly accessible without having to go 'into' the store too far as they're right up front and to your right.
They offer full or half subs and a half sub is quite filling if not even a bit much for one person (depends on your appetite). A full sub can feed quite a crew! They also offer family packs and trays.
Hot subs include a few different varieties including buffalo chicken and meatball to name a few. Most of the luncheon meat subs are cold subs and the hot subs are just hot contents, not toasted hot. To be honest I don't think I would want this luscious, fresh bread baked to a crisp!
Excellent sub to take to the beach or take home for a meal. Add on some chips, cookies (which the ones in the bakery ARE different than any they have in their bakery and are sooooo good!) and a soda and have a reasonable meal deal!

For anyone who hasn't stopped into Wegman's yet, it's well past time.
This store is packed full of the best, freshest produce you will find in the area. The bakery is always fresh. The Sandwich Shoppe has the ultimate subs for lunch or dinner and offers great family packs to make it completely affordable. The meat department carries the highest quality meats and has very knowledgeable butchers there to answer any questions.
While some view the store as a yuppie store, it's far from that. They do tend to carry a lot of up and coming items but being on target with trends doesn't make you a yuppie. They have excellent quality, great ads and sales and the staff is always top notch. I have yet to meet anyone working there that isn't helpful and quick to meet your needs.
Fair pricing, excellent quality, REAL carry out service as you pull up and open your doors for them to load your car and top notch workers. Old fashioned values with new trend ideas.

If you've ever shopped at Aldi's before you may have noticed a new look! They've truly upgraded their store and really cleaned the place up. With the introduction of a lot of new product lines, including Grandessa, they've also begun to offer some better grades of products at still low, low prices!
I've rarely run into products that I don't care for at Aldi's and even if you do they stand behind their products with a money back guarantee. Cans of veggies are $0.35 each and while they carry brand name items of some articles, their own name or off brand named items are so inexpensive you can't miss!
Also recently added, fresh meats and a lot more produce and specialty items. While some of it is 'pricey' in comparison to average stuff they offer, it is more of a gourmet selection that tends to run pricier any where you shop.
Some of my favorite items include their breaded chicken tenderloins (about $2.50 a pack), frozen boneless chicken breasts (about $6 a pack) and their infamous burritos (29 cents each) and chimichangas in both chicken and beef (69 cents each)!!! Bagged lettuce doesn't come cheaper, even on sale at big grocery stores, and their cheeses are the cheapest around!
I've recently tried a lot of the Fit N Active items also and have loved everything so far. I've tried the baked tortilla chips and the caramel rice cakes. Both excellent.
If you don't shop here already.. give it a try. If you haven't been there in a while because the store was a little 'ghetto' for your liking, come back and see it now that they've revamped. And if you're already a regular... I'll see you there for sure!
