This restaurant's extravagant service was outstanding. When our extra waffle didn't come, I thought it was a mistake. But our waitress simply explained they were holding it for when we were done with our waffles. The waffles were amazing. I want to come here every day.

I was extremely saddened to learn that Randy Hoffman, the owner and originator of Chili My Soul had passed away recently. The restaurant is currently closed and it's future seems uncertain at best.
I was a frequent visitor to Chili My Soul in it's early years, and hardly a week would go by where I wouldn't enjoy a meal from there at least three times. After I moved out of the valley, my trips became less frequent, but I still went whenever I could.
As the restaurant grew, the prices became very heavy (finally was $12.95 for a bowl of chili and $6.95 for a side of frys), and I stopped going entirely. As good as the food was, I couldn't justify paying that much for chili.
Even though I haven't eaten there in a number of years, Chili My Soul always was a special place for me, and Randy was passionate and enthusiastic about his craft, and truly had created something special in Encino.
Thank's for everything Randy, you'll be missed!
Dan - The "IW" guy
Pros: Best chili ever.

I've been to Stevie's on more then one occasion. Each time I had a blast. There is a cover charge now due to the bar and loitering around listening to the band, but it is given back once you order dinner. You just have to remember to give your server the ticket. Everyone was friendly and did the best they could. If your looking for someone to kiss your butt go some place else. You get what you give here. The crowd is laid-back and just there to let loose.
Pros: Great menu, bar, live band
Cons: small but cozy

After my family decided not to make the trip into LA to Maestros due to Friday night traffic, we decided to try something new. Of course Ruth Chris is not far, but we were in the mood for something a little more upscale. We were the first people to arrive to restaurant. We were warmly welcomed (I'm sure having 8 people in our party didn't hurt). The lighted menus were quite useful in a darker atmosphere.
Since none of us are seafood fans we all ordered the "meats" on the menu. The kids all ordered their various sides (creamed spinach, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes) and one dinner item, the stuffed chicken.
Let me start with the mac and cheese for a second. The reason I'm starting with this item is due to an absolutely absurd comment by another reviewer. They called their mac and cheese worse than Kraft's. I tasted at least 4 types of cheeses in Larsen's version. There was some blue in there as well. It was superb. And this is a side dish.
The creamed spinach was average. I also had a Caeser salad. It was average. Mashed potatoes were excellent (but not many ways to get this wrong). The stuffed chicken was a favorite with all 8 of us digging in.
As for the steaks, we had NY, petite filets, and regular filets. Again, without a doubt, the best steak I've ever had. The table agreed. We passed on using the peppercorn sauce (a little overkill). All of us used the excellent bernaise (perfectly made - no separation).
The service and attention were excellent till about 75% of our meal was complete. The restaurant got packed and our waiter went MIA. Even forgot a scoop of ice cream for my daughter. I would still give him an A, but this is something many restaurants have to work on. Larsen's is not an exception.
I wouldn't say the place is kid friendly, but it was a lot more receptive than Maestro's. All of us had a satisfying experience and will return as often as our wallets will allow.
Expect to pay $60-$75/person with a glass of wine and dessert.
Pros: Without a doubt best steak ever had...
Cons: After place got packed, service level dropped...

Being new to the Encino area, We went on the internet to find a sushi place. We discovered a place we not only will be back to, but will bring our friends.
We were seated immediately, which is unusual for 7pm on a Sunday Night.
The service was excellent people were coming to the table very often to see if we needed anything, or if the food was ok. The soft shell crab was the best since I left Louisiana. the Shumai was very good and I was very happy with the spicy tuna,California ,and spider rolls. We got the spicy tuna salad and the portions were more than generous.
I have a feeling I will be going there often as I usually go into sushi withdrawal if I don't have it at least once a week
The only negative thing I can say about my experience is that the spicy could have been a little more spicy, but I took care of that with the extra sauce the waitress brought me
Try it, I think you will like it as much as we did
Pros: good food, good service, good sushi
Cons: for me, it could have been a little more spicy

My family owned an Italian cafe so I don't spend money on Italian food. When you know how to make everything from scratch, and grew up eating the stuff 7 days a week for years it tends to be something you don't seek out.
BUT, I had a friend tell me she loved Cafe Carolina's gnocchi. Well...making gnocchi is hard and time consuming. So I was like, let's go! I am sure glad I did because this food is unlike ANY Italian I've ever experienced. It had hints of Southern France and notes of Spain. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is home made including all the pasta, the bread, the desserts...well you get the idea.
Specials change weekly and I have a few that I check the website for so I don't miss out. Entrees tend to run no more than $18, and a corking fee is only $3. The place is small so be sure to call ahead.
Pros: Fine food, excellent prices, friendly enviornment
Cons: Make a reservation the place is small!
