I am still a fan of the hot dogs, but after my last visit, I may not be back. I've been going here for years. While other hot dog places have come and went, this place has been the best. The Chicago Dog is my favorite. I went today and the women told me that between 3-5 they have dollar dogs. My friend and I ordered them and loved them. We decided to have two more. I went back up to get them and got on line at 4:55. When I got to the front I ordered 2 more dollar dogs and was told by the woman that it was 5:01 and there were no more dollar dogs. I thought she was kidding, so I laughed. She said there was nothing she could do and didn't even apologize. It's strange because the place wasn't even that busy. Not sure if this was just an isolated incident, but thought it was really strange.
Pros: Great hot dogs
Cons: Awful service

I love the veggie burgers at The Stand. The wait staff are always friendly and helpful, eager to please. I've never had a bad meal there, and I'd recommend them without reservation.

This is an ideal place to go with your family. The low-key atmosphere combined with the great food choices make this an easy place to eat with your kids. There is a large outdoor seating area that is nice if you have a large party. The food is delicious and the best part is that they serve beer.

I take my grand kids here a few times a month on the weekend. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. My wife and I are fans.

11:00 am mid-week, the place is empty but for one other customer inside and one on the patio. I drive by and decide I really ought to try this place that was so well reviewed by the Times (tells us much about the Times, as we shall see...), so I stop in, it's pretty pretentious, but it's on par with this neighborhood and order three entree items to get a sense of the place - as I really miss the Weiner Factory and am dying to find a replacement, but that's another story. So they give me my drink cup and I sit at an inside in plain view of the order taker and the cook. At five minutes and ten minutes I make polite "what's up" eye contact with the order taker and other staffers because I don't want to be rude and ask why it's taking so long, and they look back at me but don't react in any way, just the usuall deer in the headlights you get from the dopes that work in food service. Finally at about fifteen I walk the ten feet to the counter and ask what the hell is up because by this point I'm pretty angry and it turns out that my ticket is hanging right in front of the clueless cook but he's doing nothing but staring off into space. So everyone promises to get very busy with my order and by the way it will all be free but food never tastes good when you have to swallow this much idiocy along with it, so I get a full refund and go somewhere where they act like they want my business. The bottom line is - it doesn't matter how good the food is supposed to be when you can't actually get any of it. And the pretentiousness factor is way too high for me - so I haven't gone back.
Pros: Can't think of a one.
Cons: Truly contemptuous of their clientele.

Our family goes to the stand at least every other week, especially in the summer. It's a great place to take the kids and not have to cook, without spending a fortune (like most of the other restaurants in this area). It's somewhere between fast food and a sit-down restaurant, and no fast food joint I've seen has live jazz two nights a week!
I have to admit, my kids have the burgers and I don't see them as being very appetizing. On the thin side. I would expect a big juicy burger, but this is not it. Though the kids HATE big juicy burgers, so there you have it. My husband and I get the dogs, or I occasionally get a salad. These are completely satisfying, tasty choices. Have I had better?? Maybe - but for a lot more money and absolutely no ambience. The Stand is relaxed, the people are nice, the patio is fabulous, the music is great. I love coming here. Plus they do wonderful casual private parties.
If you've got a terrific hot dog place on your side of the hill, or valley or city... go ahead and stick there. We locals like the Stand and would enjoy not having to wait for a table!!
Pros: Ambience, Live Jazz, Microbrews, Relaxed Atmosphere
Cons: Can't think of any!

Speaking about the posts from oneblondie and leeyeager... rarely should anyone trust extremely negative posts from reviewers that have only one post. and post two days in a row. As a person in the biz, it looks more like a local competitor than a real client.
Pros: Garden

At first glance the menu is intimidating. It is HUGE! Burgers, dogs, etc. I was sure I was going to blow my diet. I hate to be that guy that goes out to eat with friends and can't find options that keep me on track. After speaking to a very helpful cashier, I was directed to some great low-cal, healthy options. It's not just a high-class burger joint guys, although it's that too. I had a boneless, skinless chicken breast sandwich on a whole wheat bun. Everything you could want comes on the side. It was REALLY good. Juicy and flavorful. My friend had the avocado bacon cheeseburger with fries. He raved about it. This is what is so cool about the place. Whether you're training for a marathon or in the mood to splurge, they have it all. Very nice atmosphere too. Check it out.

Zagat survey rates it well, but the hot dogs weren't anything special because the meat wasnt juicy, plump or even tasty, I would rather have a hot dog at costco or downtown LA. However the setting was cute and there was A LOT of patio seating. The place was empty for lunch time so I guess others feel the same.
Pros: Nice setting for a hot dog joint.
Cons: Bad hot dog.
