By far the BEST deal in East Lansing and Lansing proper. For a mere fourteen dollars you can have a haircut that will last an hour or so with two washes plus they indulge you with an aromatherapy scalp massage. Plus, there is no tipping allowed here at the school. If you are concerned that the new and unskilled student is going to mess up your hair (which I have NEVER heard happening to ease your concerns) then just ask for a cut with a student in “Salon Concepts” (the last stage of the ten month program). The other salon and spa services are to die for as well.

I know a number of people who swear by Douglas J for its affordability, and the fact that the students cannot take tips.
My wife, on the other hand, got a haircut here which took the majority of 2 hours, and she was not happy with the result. It was acceptable, but not what she asked for.
As with any hair service though, your experience depends on the stylist you get, so if you are in the market for an affordable salon, choose this one.
However, if you want a consistent result, you might want to go upmarket...
