Mad Hatter's has always been "pretty good" in my book but not spectacular. Most of their food is average. The noodle bowl is below average. The salads are alright. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The desserts are better than average but not outstanding.
They make their cakes and icings with shortening (not butter) and you can taste that - it leaves a slimy coating in your mouth. Once you have a cake made with real butter (hard to find these days), you'll know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I still eat the cakes and cookies from here sometimes, I've just had much better.

The Mad Hatter’s is one of Durham’s best café/bakeries. Located just west of downtown the Mad Hatter’s has something for everyone. Serving up a blend of sandwiches and salads, mixed with some of these towns best desserts, they have something for everyone. Upon entering you will be star struck by some of the most beautifully decorated cookies ever seen.

Nice space with free wireless but subpar food. Menu is interesting but not very well-executed. Coffee is less than stellar as are baked goods. Other than the nice space (very nice to study in), i really don't understand why anyone would want to go here. The people who work here are very nice, however, so that is another plus. I've been told they make good wedding cakes, so that might be a reason to use their business.

While it was good, it did not live up to what I've heard about it. The crumb cake was very good, but I've heard it described as "phenomenal", which I would not say it was. It was very good, just not that good. I would recommend, especially if you're a "big fan" of pastries.

When I moved to North Carolina I could not believe the lack of bakeries down here. So when I found Mad Hatter’s I was very excited! When I first got there I realized that they are not exclusively a bakery, but a restaurant as well. I did not order food, but did enjoy several of their baked goods. Their baked goods are delicious!

We used Mad Hatters for our wedding cake and it was one of the best decisions we made! We chose three different flavors for each layer. Everyone raved about how great the cake was. We couldn't wait for our one year anniversary to eat the top layer, so we ate it for our six month anniversary. It was still DELICIOUS! The cake was so beautiful and exactly how I imagined it. I love looking back at my pictures and seeing that cake. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because Jason (the baker) was difficult to get hold of on the phone. Which is understandable, because he is the baker, but being a bride it did make me nervous. However, to future brides, you have nothing to worry about! I love this place!

Mad Hatter's originally started as a bakery, and then slowly started offering more food items, and then moved to a bigger place. The real food (non-baked goods) section has a fairly extensive menu, it is slightly expensive and good, but not the best around for the price. Thier baked goods however are wonderful! The cakes are especially tasty and they do custom work for special occasions as well. Stop in for some coffee or tea and a baked good and try it out!
