We used this place for a rehearsal dinner for about 50 people. Even though the place was packed with baseball and hockey fans, they gave us a nice private room and had plenty of waiters paying attention to us. All of the food was fabulous, and all of our friends and family loved trying the Greek dishes. The lamb, souvlaki, and gyros were big hits. My personal faves were the stuffed grape leaves and spinach pie and fried artichoke. Everyone loved the cake that was served too! All in all, a great time, and a great place! Thanks for being so accomodating.
Pros: service, food, edible things on fire!
Cons: portions are big, be prepared to take some home

The Old Shillelagh is one of my favorite downtown bars. They have a great selection of beers (although not a good as the DBC) and they have a great, fun, and laid-back atmosphere. The place is usually packed before and after Tigers games since they run a shuttle (even though it is within walking distance). The bartenders are pretty nice folk and the prices are ok.
I've never been upstairs at the Old Shillelagh, but I heard that it gets pretty roudy on Friday and Saturday nights with Irish music and people singing. Next time I go, I plan to go upstairs and check out the happenings.
If you're the kind of person who likes "fake" Irish bars, like the Claddaugh chain of bars, then the Old Shillelagh is *not* for you. If you're looking for good time in downtown Detroit this is a great place to start (or end) and evening.

The Majestic has been one of our favorite places to eat in Detroit for quite a few years now and never disappoints us. I couldn't help thinking that the previous review (one star) must either be very demanding and unreasonable customers or simply experienced a fluke of some kind. We often eat here if going to the film theater at the DIA or to the symphony 2 blocks away or if we're just looking for good food and service that's relatively close to home. The crowd is a great mix of everything and the building that it's located in is a bit of a destination itself with it's own concert hall, bowling alley, billiards, bars and lively conversation and people watching. Yes, there are panhandlers outside sometimes, but I've never felt theatened or unsafe here nor had any touble with street parking.....but then, I grew up in Detroit (so I'm, not easliy intimidated). Go experience the Majestic and the neighboring Magic stick and chances are great that you won't be disappointed.
