This non-profit organization provides the best tours of Detroit, hands down.
Every weekend their tour changes to ones such as the Skyscraper Tour, and Eastern Market Tour.
The price is quite good and helps ensure preservation of the buildings in Detroit.
Tour guides are friendly and informative. Groups are very very small.
The tour is great detailing all the information about the buildings.
All tours are walking tours.

I can't get enough of the museum and village, I will admit the village has, and always will be, my favorite. I like watching the actors do their acts in the small buildings, and especially walk through the exhibits like the Edison's lab!

You can't live in Michigan and never attend the State Fair. This is a grand event
year after year. The fair lasts about a good week and there is definitely something
for everyone. I remember attending and wanting to view the "believe it or not"
events where you see the fluke of nature tales come to life. I was never so frightened as I was than but I was just a child. You know viewing the 3 legged
odd balls and that sort. I did enjoy the wonderful concerts that would be held
with big names coming into town to support this event. And the rides. I use to
be able to go on all the rides but now that I am older I stir away. There are always
small farm animals like piggy's and goats. This is where everyone walks around
with that pink fluffy candy on a stick or those elephant ears!!!

I pride myself in being an expert when it comes to the
subject of Fireworks because for years I attended as many as I can during the summertime. The Best
Fireworks in Michigan can be found downtown Detroit
by the Renaissance Center. This year they will take
place around dusk On June 28. Between the music
and celebrities, the food stands and the fresh open
air...The Fireworks are a perfect climax to a lovely evening. The firework show itself is so much longer
than most of the others I have attended and the types
of Fireworks is incredible...they are absolutely gorgeous! Target does an outstanding job in sponsering
this event!

Seldom Blues is located within the Renaissance Center Mega-Complex. I want to say it's in building 400. Basically, you have to ask one of the friendly security guards in the building where it is because the RenCen is confusing. There are a few cheap parking garages attached to the RenCen that you can park in and just walk to the restaurant within the building.
Anyway, Seldom Blues is a way cool restaurant and martini bar. The place is enormous with a beautiful view of the river and Windsor. There is a large stage and usually a live jazz act on stage. The bar is *very* well stocked with upscale liqueurs and martinis.
This place is the absolute perfect place to take a date after dinner or a show/play/opera downtown. I've never had the food, so I cannot judge the food, but the drinks were delicious (although very pricey).

Sweet Jesus I love this diner!
Louie's serves as the living room where my urban family gathers to eat and to discuss our complicated lives. We might be a mess, but the food sure isn't. Everything any of us has ever tried in the scores of times we have eaten here has been delicious. Known for their corned beef, they also serve delectable salads and breakfasts. Louie's is always busy, but a good busy that provides a cozy buzz around your booth. Waitresses are friendly and prices very reasonable.
Oh for a thousand tongues to sing this excellent diner's praises! (If I had a thousand tongues, they would all be licking my plate at Louie's).
P.S. Louie's is within walking distance of Eastern Market.

First off, let me say that if you are looking for new or recently published books or anything hip or trendy then you will hate John King Books. John King Book is first and foremost a used and collectible books dealer. Man does he have a lot of them!
John King Books is located in an old glove factory just west of downtown Detroit on Lafayette (not far from the Post Office). There isn't a whole lot of parking, but there is a small lot to the side of the building and is accessible to customers.
This place probably has more books than the entire Detroit Public Library System. It's huge. All four floors of the factory are stuffed with all sorts of collectible and used books organized in a fairly easy to navigate fashion. No matter what topic, I'm sure you can find at least a dozen books on it. They even had a category for Beanie Baby books, among all things! They have a vast collection of classic novels and textbooks to sort through.
I have never left John King Books without spending at least 30 bucks and getting half a dozen high quality books.

More
Back in the 70's noone was allowed to change my radio station. It was forever set on 93.1 as I favored WDRQ the music world of J. Geils Band,
The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and BTO! I found out just today that DougFM is WDRQ so perhaps it's not a bit surprizing the fond affair I have
with this particular station. It's not just hard rock or classic rock but also
carries the more mellow tunes that we women enjoy listening to. The station itself, is located downtown
Detroit by the Ren Center.
