I have to suspect that these four- and five-star reviews are based more on nostalgia and late-night drunken visits than they are based on the quality of this place. Our service was so bad, we were laughing. It's one thing to be "no frills;" I can appreciate that if it's done in a charming and intentional way. But there's a line between that and just plain rudeness. The waiter practically threw our drinks at us and never came back after he brought the food. Just preposterous. And we wanted more food! Of course I don't expect anyone to have a similar experience; I'm not suggesting it's "always" like that (though maybe it is). Still, I can't write a review without mentioning it. Dogs we ordered were great, but, really, have you ever had a bad coney? Fries were cold and seemed like they would have been average at best even if they were hot. I won't be going back. Pros: Atmosphere; food I guess Cons: Kinda dingy; terrible service

My Dad always took me to Lafayette Coney Island whenever we were within a 10 mile radius for a baseball game, shopping, or going to a museum or Cobo Hall. It hasn't changed in 50 years -- still the best all beef dogs with great chili and onions. A must for all visitors and native Detroiters.

The service is great, the food is fast and it is always a great place to stop on the way to Canada on a Tuesday night. The crowd is always good and if you stay long enough you can get some of the bums from the streets of Detroit to try to sell you random items.

If you want to be pampered like some suburb dog places then stay away...but if you know what you want and you know how to ask for itthen come on in...No fuss, just sit or stand and tell THE DOG PROS what you want and they will give it to you, and I have personally had a TO-GO order for twenty dogs and 10 frys filled in under 2 minutes! And yes, some of Detroits finest eat there and they only eat the best dogs. YepYou just got to love this place!! Pros: inexpensive, fast service, great food
