Evie's is like the Lafayette Coney Island of Mexicantown. The food is inexpensive and fast and tastes pretty good, but not great. If you're looking for a finer dining experience, head across the street to the Mexican Village Restaurant or Xochimilicos. However, If you're looking for an under $5/plate deal then Evie's is for you. The tamales are pretty good, although I'm not a huge tamale fan, so I don't have a large base of comparison. Parking is free behind Mexican Village.

Evie's is like the Lafayette Coney Island of Mexicantown. The food is inexpensive and fast and tastes pretty good, but not great. If you're looking for a finer dining experience, head across the street to the Mexican Village Restaurant or Xochimilicos. Eat at Evie's Tamales only if you like your food delicious and cheap. The tamales here are perfect; you'll wish your stomach was bigger so you could eat more of them. There's a very good reason why these masa stuffed with tasty are sold by the dozen.

This is a small place hidden in Mexicantown in Southwest Detroit. The food is very good and so are the prices. The sell a tamales by the dozen for around 7.00. They are hot and we usually eat them on the way home. The carry-out is quick and always fresh. Service is quick and it's a great place to get a fast lunch with really excellent food. It is tucked in a neighborhood along with a bakery, little gift shop and other eateries. This is a favorite or mine and seems to be known more to locals. Look for it next time you really want good, hot-fresh food.
