My wife and I stumbled on Foran's during the 2008 Winter Blast. We were surprised to say the least when we entered the Pub. It was very clean and maintained very well. The non-smoking section is very small. It consists of four tables at the front of the building by the window. However I did not find the building to be overly smokey. Michigan beers are exclusively sold here. We had the Chili which we found to be awsome. When we first sat down it took a while for some one to come by and take our drink order. This was probably due to the fact that it was busy from Winter Blast. I will certainly go back to Foran's again.
Pros: Cool building, great food, great price
Cons: No parking close by

We stumbled into Foran's during the JazzFest and was SHOCKED! Not only is it gorgeous with the groing-vaulted ceilings the pour Michigan brews and pump out great music! I heard Gomez as I sipped a MotorCity GhettoBlaster. We love Detroit and are excited to see this type of establishment in the heart of the city. It has the architecture that you would hope to find (and not crumbling into decay)with the goods to back it up! The crowd was a strong mix but it had the atmospher of a bar you might find in Mid-Town... Oh, we will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great staff as well!
Pros: atmosphere, Michigan Beers, Music
Cons: None!

I've been to this pub many times, and it's a shame that it is never completely packed.
The atmosphere is great, with barrel ceilings a story high with chandeliers, decorative border and detail from when it was a Grand Trunk Station in the early 1900s, brick walls and wood paneling around the bar area.
The pub isn't too big, but it adds to the character of the place. The staff is incredibly nice, they will welcome you, shake your hand, and call you by name when you return. Beer selection is very large, as there is many Michigan beers to choose from.
Menu consists of sandwiches, soups, salads, and a few others. The menu states they use local companies for their food, such as meat from Eastern Market. Faygo is also available. In addition, the menu states they hand make all of it as well, and it can be verified by watching them get your order, head back in the kitchen, throw on their apron and cook up your order, all visible thru a window in the back.
All the staff are great. They will talk with you about whatever is on your mind and fill up your drink as soon as you start to run out.
I have been back many times, and have no regrets in checking the place out. I'd recommend it!
Pros: Decor/atmosphere, friendly staff, never full of people, relaxing
Cons: Small menu, parking in area can sometimes be hard

Now this is a real Irish Pub. I was suprised at the other reviews and then I realized they are years old. Here's a new one. The best food and value in downtown. I was told there is new owners this year. It is clean and it is historic. I haven't had a better Reuben!! They have a Michigan/local theme going with their beer and everything. We were there when a great Jazz trio was there with a Marimba and Steel Drums. It is truly one of the most unique hole in the walls in an old train station.
Pros: This is a real piece of Detroit......amazing architecture and atmostphere. Great Food and Beer Selection
Cons: Street Parking can sometimes be a pain, but there are alot of structures and lots
