An amazing amount of theater, comedy, revues and other attractions comes to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in any given year. DCPA has a number of spaces, from intimate to huge. The touring companies are by nature top-notch, but the locally produced theater can easily rival their larger, more well-funded competitors. I have seen some performances that were not wonderful at DCPA, but the space is great, the staff polite, and the bathrooms plentiful (not always the case in theaters!). Even a mediocre play is better than the best TV, so go to DCPA and support the arts.

There’s no doubt that the Denver Center for the Performing Arts monopolizes the performing arts in Denver. There are several theaters in this complex, each laid out a different way and made to hold a different size crowd. The complex has a fantastic variety of plays at any given time. Plus, the Denver Center Theatre Company usually has a “free play” the night before opening night – a dress rehearsal that they give out tickets for, starting when the box office opens that day at 4:30p.m. Make sure you get in line early, though, as people start to line up by early or mid afternoon!

DCPA gives Denver its own touch of class. I've frequented the theater of many large cities and I'm here to tell you that ours is second to none. From the Colorado Symphony to I Love You, You're Perfect--Now Change, and everything in between you will witness a consistent high-quality and entertaining performance.
These shows are worth saving up for (or attend one of their reduced-price events--see their web site) and a wonderful excuse to get gussied up and go out and flaunt that little black dress. Let's face it--you can't wear it to the Stock Show!

The DCPA boasts itself as the largest theater complex under one roof. It features a variety of small theaters, like the Garner Galeria, Space, etc. , and the Temple Buell Theater as well as Boetcher Concert Hall and the new Ellie Caulkins Opera House (opening September 2005). Ranging from touring Broadway shows to long-running local shows like "I love you, you're perfect, now change" to world premieres, like "The Laramie Project" a few years ago, the DCPA is the place to see theater in Colorado. It does a good job, the theaters are beautiful and you feel like you are participating in the experience that theater should be. While some shows are better than others, that is to be expected in the performing arts, but you will no doubt have a good time.

This facility is home to numerous arts organizations in Denver. You can enjoy many forms of the arts from regional theater to touring Broadway shows, the symphony and opera, as well as ballet and comedy shows. I recommend catching productions put on by the Denver Center Theater Company.
The DCPA also offers its facilities for rentals. I had my wedding reception in the Donald Seawell ballroom and it is a beautiful space with breathtaking views overlooking Denver to the mountains.
I’m thankful to have a space like this in Denver.
