Bonnie Brae is a solid ice cream shop with an excellent reputation, which means it's ridiculously busy sometimes. I've seen lines that stretched half a block to get into this place on some summer nights, and I think that's going too far.
There's not much you can say about an ice cream shop. It's clean, they have lots of flavors, and they're reasonably priced for an independent shop.
However, if you're craving ice cream and the line is out the door and around the corner, don't feel bad about driving past. There's a shop called "Licks" on 13th and ?Emerson that's 10 minutes away that's just as good and not usually that busy.

This is by far the best ice cream shop in Denver. It has won numerous awards and they are all deserved. Once you are done waiting in the line that often stretches to the outside of the building you can take free samples and try their delicious varities of flavors. My favorite is the Grand Marnier which is delicious. I could go to Bonnie Brae everyday and I am never ever disappointed.

You know the kind of person – the one who is always raving about the independent businesses and poo-pooing the chains. On the suggestion of this sort of person, I checked out Bonnie Brae Ice Cream, in Cherry Creek. I was sorely disappointed – not NEARLY as good as I’d hoped. The special flavor that I tried was not very good, and although the plain vanilla was decent, there was nothing special about it – it was just vanilla. It might be a nice place to go for the locals, but for me it just wasn’t as good as the places where I usually get my ice cream.

What a great neighborhood ice cream shop! They have wonderful homemade ice cream. Try a couple of scoops of ice cream in a homemade waffle bowl. A sinful delight. They have tables outside to enjoy your treat and bring your dog along-they have special treats for them, too! I love the Wash Park area and this is definitely one of the best ice cream places in the area.

Bonnie Brae's claim to fame is "we make it here", and they do. Their homemade flavors of rich ice cream are a great comfort food. They avoid artificial dyes and flavors, focusing instead on interesting combinations and real fruit. There seems to always be a line out of the door. However, if you prefer less fat and air in your frozen dessert, I would recommend heading a little further north on University to Gelato d'Italia for flavor-intense gelato. But, if traditional ice cream is your favorite, it's hard to beat Bonnie Brae.
