I wouldn't say the service is bad here; it's just typical of what you'd find at any Chinese restaurant. Curt but efficient. Koi Palace is one of the best in the Bay Area for dim sum, which is served every day. Huge variety and good quality. The restaurant is also reknowed for it's seafood, much of which you can see swimming in the tanks at the front. Yesterday we had our company's holiday lunch here, so I was able to try a 10 course seafood banquet. The food here is a notch above other Cantonese restaurants, with items such as abalone, sharks fin soup, and fried rice with dried scallops. One standout was the roasted duck, which was delicious.
The restaurant can get loud because it's not huge and is always crowded.

The food is good. However the service is pretty bad.
Because they know that they are popular in the area. And it is not worth to wait in a long line especially during the weekend for the dim sum.

This is my number one favorite Dim Sum restaurant and for dinner too.
First off, for Dim Sum. It is always packed there.. whether its a weekday or a weekend. Unless you go when it opens, you most likely would have to wait. The food is VERY GOOD for a reasonable price. Also what I like about this place is that the dim sum taste just as good even though it has been around for a long time. Dim Sum restaurants tend to be good when they first open and slowly the food don't taste as good. This place keeps up its quality. (I especially love the Shark Fin Soup because they use actual Shark Fin and it is very tasty.)
For dinner, although it isnt exactly the cheapest restaurant, the food is great. Every dish is good. There is nothing more I can say than how good it is.
The only thing thats bad about this place is that the service is not great. The people are rude sometimes and often gives you an attitude. But, there are also the people who are very nice and friendly.

Koi Palace is the perfect, authentic dim sum experience. It's not as shi-shi as Yank Sing, but it's a nice atmosphere with truly outstanding food.
The ladies come by with carts of old favorites (BBQ pork buns, shrimp dumplings, custard tarts) and a bunch of delicious rarely-seen things (goose wrapped in a Uigher-style pancake, fried calamari that are dusted with something completely addictive).
Expect a wait -- this place is top quality. Your best bet is to line up right when they open or go at least an hour after they open (the first hour will be mobbed).
When you're waiting, be sure to stand inside, close to the announcer. If you're not right there when they call your number, they'll give away your table about 10 seconds later.

Good food, but can get expensive. I think food here is over price. Not worth it.

I think this restaurant serves the best dim sum in the Bay Area. They have a huge variety of delicious dim sum and many that you probably can't find at other dim sum places. Good food of course has its price. Everything here is slightly more expensive. They even charge more for tea than other places. Also, because this place is so popular, long lines are expected during lunch hours, especially on weekends. However, it is definitely worth the wait.

If you' re looking for authentic chinese cuisine food., this is the place to good. Lunch time favorites include dim sum all served piping hot. You can also order fried noodles and soup at lunchtime too. Dinner dishes include a large array of meat, fish and vegetable dishes. Although the prices of dishes tend to be on the expensive side, it's well worth going here if you're looking to eat delicous, well-prepared chinese food.

My friends and I went to the Koi Palace Restaurant with a reservation expecting to be seated right away. To our surprise we waited for a whole hour before we were seated. The waiters were rude and the place was just too crowded and noisy. The food was good though. We didn't even bother to get any dim sum because it was just to noisy to call the dim sum servers over.
