From steam engine to caboose, you can find it at the Age of Steam Railroad Museum. The history of the rails is recounted through a collection that includes a passenger train, a freight train and a branch line train. Steam, electric and diesel locomotives are on display. The tour's real draw is the pre-WWII passenger train complete with a Railway Post Office and baggage car, coaches, lounge cars, Pullman sleeping cars and a dining car.

More
This amazing museum in the Arts District of Dallas is a phenomenal place to visit. It's small but host to a million little treasures from South and East Asia. Best of all, admission is FREE! The first gallery you typically enter features a temp exhibit, usuall by modern Asian artists; for example they have featured in the past Japanese quilts and works of art made by blind Chinese artisans. Once you go up the elevator, you find yourself in the Chinese gallery, which features things like ornately decorated snuff bottles, tapesties of Manchu rulers, elegant objects of carved jade, large vessels, and much more. Don't forget to check out the objects on the mezzanine.
once you proceed down the adjacent hallway, you'll pass a display case featuring a Mughal-era stand for the holy Q'uran, a knife, and some other objects from Muslim India. In the next gallery, you find the facade of an Indian fort, as well as a multitude of reliefs of Hindu gods. Behind the fort are golden objects from Nepal and South-East Asia. There is a mini-room adjacent where you find ornate wooden carvings.
The museum also hosts regular events (festivals and the like) as well as craft sessions (like mehndi classes) that costs a small amount of money (but the festivals are free).
Last time I went, they were renovating, I think to include a bigger gift shop. All in all, this is a fabulous place to visit. It's small, but inviting and clean, and there aren't security guards breathing down your neck at every turn. 100% wonderful!

This store is a good alternative to stores like Oshmans or Sport Authority. The store is pretty big, and they have equipment for everything from racquetball to hunting. They also have a large selection of apparel and footwear as well. The one thing I don't like about Academy is their selection in brands. Some of these brands I have never even heard of. I think they would be able to get more people in their stores if they sold some higher end products and brands. At least everything is affordable for everyone I guess. Another thing is the organization/cleanliness of the store. I'm not sure what some of the employees are doing, but I often find myself walking down aisles and products are off the racks/shalves and on the floor. They need to spend a little more time keep the store from looking so disheveled. I don't enjoy having to sift through a pile in order to find what I want.

This place has a lot of very interesting African American art from different time periods. This place was a bit hard to find, but once I figured it out, I enjoyed it. They have pieces from all different centuries. They have a specific section dedicated to miniature figures which was quite interesting. One thing I didn't like was it's a bit small for a museum and so everything seemed cramped up.

This is a great place to buy archery equipment, have work done on your bow, or get advice on anything archery or hunting-related. I went and had some work done on my bow, and the man who owns the store was extremely knowledgable. He is a former Alaskan hunting guide, and has been there and done that.

The Biblical Arts center is a very interesting place to go. They have a wide variety of items and an amazing painting that is on display in a theatre type setting. There is a soundtrack that goes with it like a little show that is very neat. They have a gift shop and plenty of parking. It's located near North Park Mall in Dallas. I also think that they rent the place out for wedding receptions and parties. Admission is less than $10.

Old City Park is now known as Dallas Heritage Village. It is set up like old Dallas with actual homes, a church, and a school. They are even working on a historic garden that has plants that would have been grown in Dallas during that time period. The staff are dressed in period clothing to make it feel more authentic. Many schools have field trips to the park. There are also weddings held on site. They have a modern facility for the reception. It is a neat place to visit to get a firsthand idea of what it would have been like to live in Dallas generation's ago.

This camp is great. I went as a kid, and it was nice because it was only during the daytime. You still get to go home at night, which bypasses all the worries young kids have about homesickness. There are all sorts of fun things to do like ride horses, climb trees, play games, and learn new outdoors events that aren't possible in the city. You drop off your kids at some location in Dallas and then a bus takes them to the camp that isn't that far away. A great experience.

OUr school district uses this place to take the kids for a week out of the school year. They get credit for school while they are there, and they learn a bunch about the outdoors, camping, crafts, and more. This is a great idea for all area schools. It was very fun when we went here, and it is something the kids really work for because not eveyone got to go. It is up to the parent and yes it is an extra cost. It is a great experience.
