Firstly forget about waiting for a to-go order. The hostess told us that it would be 30 minutes, and after 1.5 hours, she asked me if i was waiting on my party to be sat. During thi time I sat at the bar and watched the bartender pour the same martini into the shaker 5 times. ... decent food though.

The place does well if the restaurant isn't that busy; however, if the restaurant is busy, you can wait for long periods of time, either to sit down, or to have your food delivered. The restaurant does not know how to treat customers well; maybe they'll learn eventually since the restaurant is a little new. The food can range from very good to very disappointing. I ordered the cod 20 minutes after my friend ordered it and wow, mine sucked while his was fantastic. The only redeeming quality about this place is that the food is cheap. I would suggest this place if you're local and want to come here with friends or coworkers and NOT suggest this place if you're trying to "treat" or "impress" somebody such as a business lunch or date. Pros: Great prices Cons: Bad service; the food is not consistent; bad decor

Made a take out order, which we were told would be ready in an hour. A little long but understandable for 8 on a Friday night. We got there 65 min later and they had not even started making our order! Hostess behind the stand could be at best described as dismissive. During the next 15 minutes we made several requests to see the manager to the hostess and bartender, which we are similarly dismissively handled. We finally left with our take out. Got it home and several of the rolls were not what we ordered. What was in the styrofoam was bland, and nowhere near worth the high prices they were asking. Called the manager later in the night when they had slowed down, was given the same callous attitude. Was promised a call on Monday from the owner which of course never came. So, the pattern of "the customer is always a bother" obviously starts at the top, and gets repeated all the way down. We have several friends that have reported the same problems with this place. None of us will be ever spending another dime at Oishii. There are much better sushi restaurants in the area, including Sushi Sapporo just up Oak Lawn. Pros: Nothing Cons: Service, Service, Service, oh yeah and bland sushi

Alright, just to put this out there, I have been in the service industry for about 10 years now. I have done everything from fine dining to burger joints to fondue restaurants. I also work at a restaurant that has been voted one of the top 10 in Dallas. So when I dine out I feel that I am more relaxed and patient because I understand the stress levels involved, behind the scenes, etc... Oishii in one word: Disaster. We were promptly seated and given only one menu (which I found out later was because they did not have enough to go around). Our waitress was of no help when it came to the wine...I know wines pretty well, but she had a bad "know-it-all" attitude when I asked simple questions. We placed our sushi order by hanging the paper off of the side of the table and flagging her down to get her attention. We were also almost done with our sushi, ( 2 orders and gyoza) and had not even been approached to take our entree order yet. They came by to try to take our menu but I wanted to hold onto it so that I could stand it up to let her know we were ready to order. The sushi was good but the entrees were so so. Throughout the entire meal my water glass was empty ( they did fill waters at other tables, and then stopped one short at ours before even turning a head to see if we needed any). Both of our glasses were empty at the edge of our table. We saw our waitress maybe three times during our entire meal. Nobody even came by to check up on us or ask us if we enjoyed our meal. I do agree on another review saying that Oishii is understaffed. I do not know if they use a front/back serving technique there, but whatever they did it was horrendously disorganized. The only time we got quick service was when we flagged someone down for our bill. which was promptly picked up when the credit card was in the book. I will never be returning to Oishii. Pros: Great area, good music, food priced well Cons: bad service!!!

I should have known to leave when I pulled up and a homeless guy was trying to help me park my car. More on that, I mentioned it to the hostess and asked her to take care of it. When my companion showed up 20 minutes later it still hadn't been dealt with. We ordered the edamame as an appetizer. Way too much salt. I mean, ridiculous amounts of salt. We ordered the yellowtail roll, the rainbow roll and one other with eel that I can't remember the name of. Yellowtail roll was not very good due to the quality (or lack there of) of the fish. Rainbow roll suffered the same fate. The mystery roll was actually pretty good. When our nigiri came out it was dropped at our table by another waiter, not ours. He didn't stop to ask if everything was ok so we sat there looking at what might be the most unappetizing fish I've ever seen for a few minutes before we could send it back. The salmon looked as if it was about to fall apart and had a very plastic like look to it. The albacore looked mediocre and the tuna looked ok. We sent the salmon back and while the new pieces looked a little better they still weren't very fresh. Nothing in our meal tasted like it was that fresh. I've had sushi off of a buffet that tasted more fresh and flavorful than the sushi at Oishii. This has to be the worst sushi experience I've ever had in Dallas and quite possibly anywhere else. Next time I entertain the idea of dining at Oishii I'll just drive down to the Kroger and get sushi out of a refrigerated case instead, it couldn't be any worse. Pros: Waiter was attentive Cons: The fish was stale and not good at all

Visited on a Saturday afternoon 12.06.08, they were busy, but still had a few open tables. I brought a friend who had not been there before on my recommendation. I had been there a year ago and had a really nice dinner. Not so this day. We were seated promptly but we quickly realized they were severely understaffed. They had only 2 wait staff to greet, seat, take orders, serve and ring up customers for the entire dining area. The bus person did not speak english and was as confused as the wait staff. They were unorganized and were only able to complete one task at a time. The food was acceptable but not abundant or impressive. This staffing situation is a real quick way to ruin an established reputation. I am very disappointed and will not dine there again. Pros: Location, trendy urban atmosphere Cons: Poor staffing and training, no sense of urgency or teamwork amongst staff.

We were there during the Cowboy's game (and they actually won, which caused a cheer from the whole restaurant). It is not a sports bar, but the TV does come in handy sometimes. We had fried dumplings, edamame, a curry chicken dish, pho, delicious veggie sushi.. and it was all wonderful. So was the service. It had been a few years since I had been there and they have completely redone the place. It looks so much nicer. Pros: Great food. Good value. Good service. Good ambiance. Cons: Not the best neighborhood.

It is a staple of my diet and if I don't have my fix I start craving it. Try the On The Border roll... it is the best sushi roll I've ever had. The sashimi is always fresh and excellent. Ask Tan or the other chef what is best for that day or what he has for a special. You will be in good hands if you allow him to choose your food. The noodle bowls are also very good. Don't let the area of town and that facade fool you, this is one of the best places for Sushi in Dallas and the price is unbeatable. Pros: Food, Service, Selection Cons: Location

I've been to Oishii three times now, and I feel better about reviewing them. Some of the foods they have are great, like the curry chicken and the much ballyhooed volcano roll. I wasn't so impressed with the corn and crab soup. It was edible, but "delicate" to the point of being bland. We dined on Tuesday, hoping to take advantage of the Dollar Sushi special, but when the sushi didn't come out for over a half hour, I gave up and cancelled the order. In short, it's a good place to eat, but service may be spotty.
