Delivery by Horse & Carriage -- Review #2 11/13/2008

If you're eating in at Sal's, great. When the pizza is piping hot, it is delicious. But do NOT call Sal's for delivery. I read the horse-and-carriage review and decided to take a chance anyway. Big mistake. My pizza came after an hour and it was FREEZING COLD. Freezing. When I called Sal's to report the problem, as well as the fact I was going to review it on this site (and that others had the same complaint on this site), the guy on the phone could not have cared less. So from a delivery standpoint, I wouldn't rate it high on service or quality. more

Delivery by horse and carriage 10/26/2008

I ordered a pizza from Sal's on a Sunday afternoon. It took 1 hour and 52 minutes exactly. I had to call them 3 times to ask where my pizza was. I had heard good things about their pizza quality, etc... and maybe that is the case in house at their location on Wycliff, but this pizza was terrible. It was cold, of course, the pizza dough was of poor consistency, meaning that the entire pizza was like eating a piece of crust. They put half the amount of cheese they should have put on it (and I'm not a big cheese guy). To top it all off, they cut the pizza so unevenly that i had pieces that were literally half the size of other pieces on the pie... normally this wouldn't bother me, but it was the icing on the cake. Pros: Reputation Cons: Everything else, especially service. more

Best Pizza In Dallas 2/13/2008

I took my coworkers to Sal's for lunch. When we arrived their was no wait and you can sit wherever you want. Three of us ordered the GIANT pizza and let me tell you...It was huge!!! It was melt in your mouth amazing!! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a great pizza. more

decent pizza; horrible service 2/4/2007

decent pizza for Texas but coming from NY its hard to find something better. Don't get delivery unless you want cold pizza and a order taker who is rude and thinks he is doing you a favor by selling you a pie. I live a few blocks down from Sal's and it took over an hour to get my pie delivered and when I called to complain that it was cold, he said, "what do you want me to do about it". Pros: decent pie Cons: horrible service more

Great overall experience, though not the best pizza. 9/13/2006

Seems like the pizza is made for old-fashioned tastes -- lean and not too fussy. Pros: Thoughtful details, great service for a truly casual pizza joint. Cons: Pizza itself could be better, but it won't ruin the experience. more

Very good crust but very average taste 8/26/2006

I decided to give Sal's a try after reading it was voted Dallas' "Best Pizza 2006" by the readers here. After reading the reviews, I had some preconcieved notions about Sal's. From the reviews I expected the restaurant to be a bit smaller than it was, and I expected a "Pizza Naazi" to work there. Neither was the case. The restaurant was about average size - not small but not big either. I didn't feel the tables were necessarily "packed closely together." And concerning the service, one reviewer described the service as "rude" and someone else described it as "rough". The waiter we had was friendly and we didn't experience any negativity. It was the slow time of the day, so I guess they had no reason to be on edge. However, there were 2 guys standing in the workers area that sounded like New Yorkers. They were talking loud and non-stop for about 10 or more minutes. So I can see how those with that type of personality can come across as "rough". Us Texans tend to talk slower and more relaxed. I figured one of the guys must of been the owner because he afterwards got into a big, expensive car and drove off. Pros: Good crust Cons: Not enough taste to the pizza more

Great Veal Dishes! 8/1/2006

Sal's in my opinion, the best Italian Food in Dallas. The Veal dishes are better than any "Cloth Tablecloth" type restaurant in the Metroplex. As for the "Rude/Bad Service" remarks above, Hey they're Yankees; what did you expect? If you want Great Food and don't mind rough service and a hole in the wall restaurant, then Sal's is the place. One Word; Meatballs. Pros: Great Veal, Good Pizza, Wonderful Prices. Cons: Rough Service, Large Crowds, Hole-in-the-Wall. more
