Just enjoyed a great lunch here with a colleague. The ambiance is very pleasant, and we received fantastic service--very attentive, but not overbearing. While we waited for our food, they brought us an appetizer "on the house." Our entrees were both tasty, appropriately portioned, and we were in and out in about an hour. I highly recommend this place and plan on returning to try their Sunday brunch.
Pros: Excellent food, excellent service
Cons: None

We have all of our special occasions at Catalina. The service is great. We have tried many entrees on the menu and the food is always excellent. The owners do a great job of checking on the guests to ensure they are having a great time and great food. Due to the great atmosphere we have often stopped in just to have a drink and appetizers.
Pros: Everything on the menu is excellent
Cons: Not enough parking

They reuse the sour cream, cheese and bacon for the baked potato. To make this even more plain. You will be eating combined sour cream, cheese and bacon. The servers take the stuff previously given to other diners and serve it to you. In effect, everyone is dipping from the same bowls. This, in my opinion, is nasty and is a guaranteed health hazard. While we were eating, we noticed that the owner allowed an obviously important guest to bring their dog into the restaurant. Isn't this a health code violation??? I think a full moon was out. We figured that if they don't care enough to give you fresh baked potato sides, then what am I really eating. It is easy to let the ambiance fool you.
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Health code violations

Food and atmosphere are fashioned after Houston's. Incredible onion rings to start are a must. Filet Mignon and Lamb chops are excellent. Service was mixed on our two visits, first time server was on the ball & very professional, second time way to meek and didn't seem to know her menu very well.
The bar and dining room are beautiful and adjoin one another, that's where we come to a MAJOR problem with this establishment. It's seems the people in the bar like music blasted, I mean so loud we couldn't have a conversation in dining area, even complained twice to no avail. Server apoligetic, but music was not turned down.No manager ever came to our table. Management needs to pay attention to customer complaints. Won't be back!!! Way to many restaurants in Dallas that want my business!!
Pros: Food. Ambience
Cons: Music, Valet parking

I've been to the Catalina Room several times and food and service is great. I have only tried their steak or Lamb, but my friends have really raved about the Catfish. I really enjoy the comfortable and warm atmosphere that it has at night. The live Jazz is a nice touch.
The service is great! The first night my friends and I went to there we asked if they had Happy Hours. The waiter said they did not and we didn't think anything of it. Not five minutes later the owner, LR, came up and introduced himself. He wanted to hear if we had any suggestions about Happy Hour and we talked for a bit of time. He told us his story of the restaurant and a little bit about himself. It was a very pleasant conversation and when he left he sent over a bottle of some of champagne. The next time I was there, he remembered me and sent over a first round of drinks to our table on the house. The waiters are pretty prompt. I've had only one issue with one; She was nice as can be but she did not have a clue. It took us forever to get the check, but I think she was new (I hope).
Sunday Brunch is a bit pricey however you will get immediate seating and it does offer a type of small buffet including large shrimp, caviar, and smoked salmon. You get to order a main dish, which consists of brunch type food such as Steak and Eggs, Eggs benedict, and some other regulars you'd expect to find on a typical brunch menu. They serve Bottomless Mimosas and/or Champagne during brunch. Desert is also included which I highly recommend the Keylime Pie. Like I said the Brunch is a bit pricey ($25-$28) and you can go to other places cheaper, but if you don't want to wait in line like you would at Breadwinners or Blue Mesa and want a good brunch with bottomless mimosas I'd check it out.
You have to pretty much valet park there unless you want to park in the garage for Glorias / Winetastic and walk across Douglas. I believe Valet is anywhere from $5-$7.
Pros: Warm atmosphere at night, friendly owner, GREAT Bar, Open Kitchen
Cons: Valet Parking, Pricey Brunch

First time there. Nice music (Sinatra), a lot spent on built-out, cozy, warm, but very dark with tv's in every booth.
BUT, talk about a loser place, AND THE OWNER.. he calls himself LJ, or, in his words, "Left Jab".. very argumentative, hates to hear criticism about too much salt in the spinach salad (said it was his recipe), or bland potato soup served to my girlfriend, or overly battered onion rings (which was sent over when he saw we'd never been there before, to muster new clientele). He never offered to comp, but, hey, I didn't make a scene either. Tab was $40 bucks, and we couldn't wait to get out of there! NASTY PLACE and only $5 valet parking is offered (all front spots are taken by employees, per comments by staff). Food is very, very average and much more than what they post on their web site. Drinks ARE STRONG THOUGH (see Amy, nice girl, started two weeks ago). Hey, she's the only saving grace.. this LJ is a total pr**k, and a bully! There were a few escorts around the booths. Won't be back. Truthfully, I'll give the joint 'til early summer at IT WILL BE CLOSED AWAITING A NEW TENANT. I've never posted any remarks, especially hateful, about restaurants, ever, particularly comments directed toward establishments that are within a few blocks of my home.
This guy (LJ) needs to get his head read if he ever wants to get ahead in the service industry, which is, taking criticism from his clientele. HE'S AN F"IN JOKE! If you're going to eat in the uptown, highland park, or knox/henderson area of Dallas, then I'd recommend: 1) Cafe Pacific (everything!! but especially the pepper steak... and cheap, $29), 2) Cuba Libre (the salmon and steak at $13 and $19 respectively), 3) Tuckers (owned by a fellow Aussie), 4) The Loon (yes, it's late night food ('til 1pm), but the filet is exceptional, as is the pork loin).. GIVE THIS PLACE A "WIDE BERTH"..!!
Pros: The drinks!!
Cons: The owner

Six of us went to dinner tonight (Satuday) as I had heard that Rusty Johnson was playing sax. I stopped in the restaurant early in the morning to see if we could get a reservation and was promptly met by a nice gentleman in a tuxedo who took my reservation down. I asked if we could have a table near the piano as we were primarily coming to hear the duo that was scheduled to play that evening and he assured me that would be fine.
Upon arriving promptly for our 9:30 reservation, we were informed that there were people sitting at our table who had not been seated by the house manager, bar staff or wait staff and that there was nothing anybody could do. When I expressed my disappointment , the chef himself came over to apologize. Little did I know but the two guys that were hovering around the check-in stand were the owners of the place. NEITHER one took anytime to talk to me or my party or to express their apologies or to try to remedy the situation. Obviously the night went downhill from there.
The food was ok but not a place I'd go to a second time. Atmosphere overall is nice but it was clear that the owner's philosophy around customer service permeates throughout the place. Mediocre service at our table was the main course for the evening.
Overall a BIG disappointment.
Pros: ambience, chef, live music
Cons: service, arrogant owners, parking (NONE)
