I take all of my 6 pets to City Vet. My animals have always been treated beyond well. One of my dogs has severe allergies. While other specialized vets in the area of dermatology have put her on steroids ( which make her sick) Dr. Dennis found a miracle pill for her and Addie is thriving and not sick. I feel so fortunate to have Dr. Dennis and the rest of the staff. (Georgia, Wendy, all the techs, and assistants etc. ) Dr. Dennis loves my pets! I also adopted a dog from City Vet and she has been a miracle to our family. City Vet kept her alive when she first came to them and then I luckily got her. Thank you to everyone at City Vet for keeping my pets healthy and most importantly happy!!!

I continue to use Cityvet of Oaklawn because the veterinarians are nice and seem to know how to treat my pets. I have one dog who is frequently ill so I use Cityvet's services many times a year. My other pets pretty much just need their routine shots and checkups. Again, I keep going to Cityvet because, for the type of care and services my pets have needed up to now, the doctors are great. I do see where some pet parents have had more involved care and have not been impressed. Because I have not needed the service they wrote about I can't agree or disagree. However, I will tell any perspective new client that you should look into other facilities before establishing a relationship with Cityvet. The office staff at the Oaklawn location are incredibly indifferent and seem to think they can multi-task for better then they can. I always hate checking out because I will have to deal with at least two different staff members who rarely communicate with one another and to care less if the pet parent has to wait 5 minutes or 30 minutes. They simply don't care. It has been that way for at least the last two years. Maybe there was a change of management. I don't know. If my pets doctors ever change I will likely stop using Cityvet in Oaklawn.

After going to several vets in Dallas, I finally settled on City Vet and I have been very happy with the service I have received. The day care is very reasonably priced, and you can even look at their webcams to check in on your pets throughout the day. They really do give the pets individual attention...for example, I don't go there frequently but whenever I go to pick my dogs up everyone who works there knows the names of all the dogs staying there. Unlike the other review, I have never been pressured to buy products from City Vet...I have even been told that it wasn't necessary (when my dog was put on medication I was told I didn't need to buy the pill pockets and I could just stick them in some peanut butter or cheese instead). I like to board my dogs together and they offer bigger rooms for that purpose where they can be more separated from the other dogs at night and even give me 25% off one dog when I board them in the same room.
Pros: webcam, vets are caring, convenience
Cons: the records sometimes get lost when switching back and forth between the two locations

I've been to City Vet many times and stopped taking my animals there. The vets really are condescending and I take very good care of my animals with regular shots and check-ups not to mention exercise and attention. The staff still seemed to find a way to try to make me feel bad for not buying their food and other products. I'm also a graduate student with not much money, so I pay attention to prices although I'm definitely not "cheap" as the last person commented (organic food, regular daycares, etc.). City Vet does have higher prices than my current vet and I'm now actually receiving better, more caring service. Also, I've never boarded my dog there but I have at 2 other places in Dallas and my dog has never had any of the problems I've read about on other reviews of City Vet as well (scratches, very skinny although most food is gone, etc.), and she's a VERY sensitive dog who was starved and abused before she was rescued. Before taking your animal here, please read some reviews on other sites; you'll be surprised at how many are bad.
Pros: Location and nice building
Cons: Just about everything else

I have volunteered and helped in Rescue off and on for over 15 years. I came to City Vet when they first opened, and have had many good experiences at both locations. They helped me to save many lives, including my personal friend of 14 years, Cinder.
Sometimes we were unable to save the dogs and cats, and I have always been present for the euthanasia, and it is always done with dignity and compassion. They try to explain the situation carefully, which might sound condescending to some, but since most of us have not been to medical school, I have appreciated their sincere attempts to let me know what was going on.
Dr. Cannon, the founder, said something that has helped me very much over the years, that he would do anything in his power to extend the life of my pet, but that he would not participate in extending my pet's death. It is an important distinction and some vets just let you try everything and spend money when it is not good for your pet.
The other vets on staff I have worked with have also been good advocates for the animals and very kind to me. I ask a lot of questions and they answer. I have had at lest 50 animals there over the years, if not more.
When they opened, the pricing was below the average, but I could not say any more how it compares. They do feature extended hours and this is very helpful for working people. I recommend that you at least check them out if you are considering a new vet. The underlying philosophy of helping animals as a part of stewardship has remained constant as the business has grown and the staff has changed.

I have been going to City Vet Uptown for years, through the changes of ownership, and of Doctors. No matter who has seen my pets, or what has happened, there was a common goal to educate me for the best care of my pets. They made me fully aware that everything offered was optional, and at my own discretion to accept. They have always been caring, and kept their eyes on the true reason for my being there-the health of my pets. I am a lifelong customer, and would recommend them to everyone. Although they are busy, they let it be known that I am important. They want to keep my pets healthy, and happy, with a good quality of life. They always have multiple paths that I may choose, all helping the welfare of my pet. My dogs have gone to doggie daycare. My dogs love it. They also love the staff!

Buyer Beware! I have used City Vet for routine problems and thought that they were ok....until my pet had surgery. I am an intelligent professional and thought that I was a good consumer. What a mistake I made by not being more aware of who I was dealing with and my pet suffered for it. They botched the surgery and gave me wrong post-op instructions, causing a near fatal complication. Thank God for Dr. Cox at the E-Clinic! If not for her rapid intervention I would have lost my best friend. When I went back to City Vet the front desk was totally clueless, rude, insensitive, and hostile. My obvious concern and questioning was interpreted as me having an attitude. (no screaming or yelling on my part, just concerned questions that apparently made them feel very uncomfortable) The doctors response was to not charge for the follow-up visit...but they made up for it by scheduling multiple further visits and charging each time. The place is a zoo with dogs running everywhere. It is incredibly difficult to deal with a sick pet when you are trying to keep it out of harms way. On my last visit I asked why I was getting yet another prescription and questioned the dosage (which was more than a adult human would take). I was told the vet was too busy to answer the question. I was told that it had to be right because that was what was ordered and to just give it as directed. This was followed by an exasperated sound and a Next in line response. That was my last visit to City Vet. I found another Vet who agreed that I was correct in not giving the wrong dosage. I am looking at many more months of treatment before complete recovery and I have already spent several thousand dollars because of this incompetence. Thankfully I have the resources to deal with this. Pity the poor pet owner in similar circumstances who would have no choice but to put their pet down because of a carele

I have been using City Vet since the fall of 1999. I have never had any complaints with them. The staff has always been excellent with me. I have 6 dogs, and have had numerous rescues throughout the years. ALWAYS, I and my animals have been treated with respect and so much love and care. Dr. Effie is fabulous, Dr. Novasad, fabulous! Dr. Griffen, fabulous! They take the time to talk with you and always make sure that you know what is going on. The other vets I have not worked with but I'm sure they are excellent also. The compassion they have for animals is amazing. I had brought in a broken bleeding rottweiler (rescue) when they were extremely busy 4 days before Christmas in 2005, and they worked me in, and worked around me as I sat and cried on the floor over him. They saved him. When I had to put my old female Rottie to sleep, there were techs coming into the room to kiss her and tell her goodbye and that they loved her. The vet stayed with me as she passed, and told her goodbye. They care, and I will not go anywhere else. Busy, yes they are, are there kinks that may need to be worked out with their system on checking in and out people/animals? Possibly, but that is life and business. The most important thing to me is are they kind to your animals, and that answer is a resounding YES!

I have had nothing but great experiences with City Vet. Dr. Tate and Dr. Murphy are excellent doctors who care for the pets more so than most owners do. The staff are well trained and well spoken. I have been in the lobby when the employees have to deal with ignorant, irate clients such as the one who left that horrible comment. From what I have learned from the staff, it is unlikely and near impossible for a pets nails to have been like that for several days straight. Also, when pets board they often get stressed from the change of environment and won't eat. I know the staff closely monitors the pets to make certain that they are eating. I myself was concerned about my dog losing a few pounds. He loves going to daycare! City Vet is "expensive" to only those who want to be cheap with their pets. I find it to be much more cost effective than other places. City Vet has my support!
Pros: Great staff, great prices
Cons: Rude clients

Do not go to these people. they are an inexperienced hack staff, who are rude and don't know what they are doing. We had my cats claws removed and they forgot to take out the catheter. Now, because we were in a bind, we left our dog there for a simple boarding, grooming, and nail trimming and he has been bleeding for 2 days because they cut his nails too short. It was also like he never ate, slept, or went to the bathroom while he was there. if you love your pet don't take them there. find a better place. From the experience we have had, Petsmart seems like a better choice. its sad when you have to take the lesser of two evils when caring for a loved one.
Cons: inexperienced, rude staff who dont know what they are doing or care; expensive
