I took my son to the Dallas Zoo and couldn't get out of there fast enough. It's depressing. The animals look depressed. I know they have tried to make it better, but they have come up far short of reaching that goal. The enclosures are way to small for the animals and most are dank and filthy. If you want to visit a zoo in the area, go to Fort Worth. They have done a superior job there.

Okay, so it's not the Ft. Worth Zoo! But the Dallas Zoo has done a lot of improvements in the last few years. The addition of the children's area is awesome! And the admission fees are so affordable. Two summers ago our family bought a pass that got us all in for a whole year and only cost $55!! Try to get that pricing at the Ft. Worth Zoo! I think it's worth the trip!

A great city zoo. Lots of walking within but lots to see. Well kepted and nice and clean. Take the dart train right to the zoo. A lot of people prefer the Ft. Worth zoo I think but not sure that I do. We have had many family type trips to the Dallas zoo and have really enjoyed it each time. Took our children there years ago and now take the grandchildren and still have fun there.

But the Dallas Zoo is one of the worst I have ever been to. The zoo is split in half... the half that is run down and the half that it seems that time forgot. So many exhibits were empty and those that were not were very sad.
The one gorilla looked so sad and lonely that he was literally crying. It was depressing and the least enjoyable day at a zoo that I have ever had. My 8 year old son even made a comment about how sad all the animals looked.
On contrast... the Fort Worth Zoo was one of the best ever. They had so many babies there and the animals were so active that it was truly a magical experience for my son. We've been back a couple of times but have sworn never to go back to the Dallas zoo.
The one positive of the Dallas zoo was the children's play area and the shop where you could exchange fossils and other items. I truly think that there are some at the zoo that are trying to make some changes for the better but like I said earlier... it is split in two parts and the changes they are trying to make in one half are completely overshadowed by the dismal attention (or lack there of) given to the older half of the zoo.

The Dallas Zoo is a nice zoo that is really trying hard to become better. They are an older zoo that has been in Dallas for decades. The zoo is nice but shows signs of being a little run down but it does seem that they are always trying to fix it up and are trying to expain their programs. It is a nice way to spend a day with the kids and they have a lot of animals in their enclosures. There is plenty of parking and if you have any questions- stop one of the staff- they are very friendly and helpful.

The Dallas Zoo is a wonderful days outing for the family. It has easy access with the DART and is affordable. We liked our last visit so much that we took out a family membership which was just a few dollars then what it cost us to get in for the day. The monorail is great and allows you to see parts of the zoo that you don't get to see on foot. I love the new section with the kids interactive areas and petting zoo that they have. The river bed is also a neat place for the kids to play.

Although the Dallas Zoo is not world renounced, it can still be fun. It has 8000 animals on 97 acres, which pretty much means if there is an animal you want to see, they probably have it, short a few pandas and other extremely rare species. The Zoo is ideal for kids and family trips. Everyone should see the zoo at least once.
