The service was fast and friendly and the ambiance is great. I had the kobe beef which was fantastic, and the mac n cheese with truffles is the best I've ever had. The cotton candy for dessert was a nice touch too.
Pros: great food, service, and ambiance
Cons: expensive

The glass wall at the entrance where you can see the aging meat is impressive. The Asian-inspired appetizers and first courses are very good. The truffle fries were good. But the porterhouse steak was mediocre. The claim was that it was aged 28 days but it tasted just like fresh cut meat from a supermarket.
As a big fan of Bryan Flannery's 60-day aged meat, I guess I'm spoiled, but if you have the word "steak" in the name of your restaurant, you should have good steak.
Pros: Good food and wine service, asian influenced sides
Cons: Not living up to its claim to fame; namely, steak

This place is simply the best meal I've ever had. It's definitely a place to go to only on special occasions, because it's definitely not cheap. To this day, I still remember the Hamachi shots. For $20, you get 6 of these delicious shots, made with fresh fish and other garnishes. It's not what I expected at all. My second favorite has to be the fries. Sounds plain, but these fries are fried in truffle oil (I believe), which gives it a completely different, but incredibly delicious taste. Plus, the service is really good. My boyfriend and I went here for an anniversary and they served us champaign and a complementary cake. I can't wait to come back again.

My family and I had an early dinner at Alexanders over the weekend and it was an amazing dining experience. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service is impeccable. Knowledgeable wait staff explain menu items, the wine list, and any other questions you might have.
The food was ridiculously good. Steak house style with an asian twist worked wonderfully. Ever dish was brought out and explained to us: how it was made, what was used, and how best to eat it! I recommend the prime rib and any dessert item on the menu! Best of all, at the end they present the table with a cotton candy! I thought it was very charming.
I've been to many steakhouses before, and for the service, food, and dining experience I received at Alexander's, it was well worth the price!

Alexander?s is a lovely restaurant where I have come to expect first-class food and service; unfortunately, last night?s experience was dreadful. The waiter was obtuse and pompous; the food uneven.
From beginning to end, from the tedious explanation of what a tasting menu is until we received our truffle fries that arrived when the three of us were nearly finished with our meals, the service was truly awful, the meal mediocre -- greasy short ribs, cold veggies.
Perhaps it was a mistake to interrupt the waiter?s pedantic definition by mentioning we had recently done Robuchon?s in Paris and a tasting menu was more food than we wanted, for instead of letting us order, he continued with a list of the ?world famous? tasting menus he had eaten and he then firmly informed us it was not about the quantity of the food but about the experience?followed by several more tedious minutes informing us of how small the portions are, and again, what a dining ?experience? is?blah, blah, blah.
I?m perfectly sanguine with occasionally uneven food and the sides were generally ok; however, I have a serious problem with snotty servers. (Unfortunately, I do not know his name.) Interestingly, our waiter?s assistant (I believe, named Steve) was charming and gracious. Perhaps instead of Steve assisting, our waiter could shadow Steve, for this might show him the people skills absolutely necessary for a positive dining experience.
I sent my comments to the restaurant only to receive a curt email asking for my mailing address. I assume they were going to send me some kind of incentive to give them another try; however, nothing ever arrived. If the goal was to get me to return, a sincere apology would have gone much further than a 10% off coupon.
The waiter was right, it is all about the experience: Alexander's is an experience to be avoided.
Cons: horrid service

Steaks are excellent and cooked to your preference perfectly. Desserts are awesome and plated beautifully.
If your lucky, you can get a tour and meet the chef and owner. The menu is $$$$ since all entrees, vegetable, and salads are priced separately.

The only reason this is not number one on the list is because you penny pinching thrifty types are writing the reviews. Granted this place is expensive, but it IS the best in the area. Aged beef, an asian undertone, beautiful presentation.
The next person who wears too much perfume into this place i'm going to verbally abuse. This is SF quality in Cupertino. Bow down to Alexanders, bet out the AmEx and enjoy your night.

Our server was Brian. It was our first time there and I did take my kids. My daughter (10) had the Kobe burger with fries. I had the Ribeye. If not for the help of our server I would have ordered something else. He was patient and explained how the food was prepared and that it was served a la carte. We ordered steak fries as a side dish. You get 3 for $6. But they were huge 1/4 of a large potato each and well worth it. The ribeye was cooked as I ordered and was almost as good as Ruth's Chris (it is not aged but was huge and excellent flavor). We had scallops for appetizers. My son said that he would never eat a scallop from anywhere else but Alexander's. The presentation was pleasing to the eye and the sauces really complimented the food that was served. My sister went there recently and was not as happy. I think that a good server can make good food better and can guide you towards ordering a meal that will be memorable. I would definately recommend Alexander's.
Pros: Service was excellent
Cons: Price,

This is a great place. I had a business lunch here about 6 months ago. Boy was I lucky. We each ordered the bone-in rib-eye. Fabulous! The steaks were tender and juicy. The best steak I have ever had and I have eaten at many steak and chop houses across the country. Ruths Chris might follow with second place, but not that close.
Our server was knowledgable and swift.
The two downsides were the price, but in this case you really get what you pay for and the hours of operation. I have tried to stop in a few times, but of course my timing has been off. I guess my schedule allows me go out in the late afternoon, and they are not open. Only lunch hours and dinner hours!
I have been craving a return ever since. I tried to make reservations for Valentines day, but I called too late and they were full.
Another thing that I thought was cool was, Yan from "Yan Can Cook" was there filming a show. My friend went to the restroom only to return and tell me about Yan! Sure enough he was there filming.
Pros: Great Steak
Cons: hours of operation, price

I love this restaurant for the awesome food. Genuine Japanese Kobe...you can't find that much in this area...but it's pricey. Then you'll be spoiled for regular beef. I love the little cotton candy they bring with the bill. I just wish they had some side dish with the steak that you don't have to pay extra for!
