I liked this bar. On the weekends it can get really crowded. They were doing karaoke on Sat. nights and that was fun. The people all there seem to know each other, in fact I met my husband there! The bartenders are all friendly and there's a pool table in the back. I wasn't expecting much as far as the food goes, but I got hungry one night and tried it and was very surprised at how good it was. I'd recommend stopping by this place.

Great lunch with thick slices of homemade bread. Fresh soups each day and a wonderful view. We came to Coupeville, looking for someplace with small town, home cooked, by the bay atmosphere and found exactly what we were looking for. Wouldn't go any place else in Coupeville for lunch.

The service was fantastic, the ingredients were fresh, all the dishes were perfectly balanced, the staff was amazing... really a gourmet place for the same price as the average, island over-priced, competition.

Homemade soups and sandwiches, with giant salads (too big). Baked goods are to die for, my favorite being the "sticky buns". I am not a breakfast person, but have been told they cook an awsome breakfast on weekends. Prices are good, portions are big, people are nice.
Pros: Pie, Soup, Sandwiches, OK everything!
Cons: Have to wait on weekends to get in

My husband and I have ate dinner here a few times and it is always a treat. The food is great and they have a good beer and wine selection. The only problem we had on one visit, was they were out of a lot of things after and busy day.

The other two reviews I've read are so miss leading. Almost criminal! I I think the food and people who work at the Mad Crab are excellent .I've lived on Whidbey Island for 29 years and have eaten in all the restaurants around here. I've eaten at the Mad Crab many times and each time it was better than the last. Most weekends there's great live music downstairs in the bar. For my money the Mad Crab is a wonderful place to enjoy great food, great music, and a great night out with family or friends while over looking Coupeville Bay. I give four stars to the Mad Crap. So there!.

My favorite is the mussels. They're famous for them. Reubens and Fish n Chips come a close second. The coleslaw, served with a lot of meals, is to die for. Every once in a while, mussel chowder is on the menu - definitely worth ordering. All kinds of GOOD beer on tap. This is a local favorite, though sometimes in the summer we can't get in for the tourists. John, the owner, is a great guy and a strong member of the community. Sometimes it's a little slow getting your food - they have a very small kitchen - but the hot stuff is always hot and the cold is properly chilled. After a couple of visits, the waiters know what you want. Just the kind of place you want to have a relaxing meal in. If you want snooty - I suggest you head back to the big city - we prefer real and honest.
