Now I am a hard person to please when it comes to good Italian food. You see, I married an Italian and when I joined with his clan I quickly learned that not only is RAGU a bad word but few can make "pasta" like Grandma used to make.
After 15 years I have learned to make sauce from scratch, a passable eggplant Parmesan and even appreciate Prosciutto, so when THE OLIVE GARDEN came into town I was a bit on the hesitant side. What if it didn't live up to hubby's expectations? What if their pasta wasn't al'dante'? I swallowed my fears and decided to try it at least once....and so began the long love affair with THE OLIVE GARDEN.
Now I am not a big eater and since my kids are pretty picky, hubby and I began to frequent this restaurant in earnest ,when our youngest began school. Taking advantage of the soup and salad specials, we both quickly found out that not only does THE OLIVE GARDEN use quality products in their menu, but they hire some of the most personable people around to work in their establishment.
The prices are reasonable both for lunch and for dinners and the array of wines available are wonderful....be sure to ask for a recommendation of wine...the waiters there really know their wine! Parking is pretty nice except on "game day" when most any restaurant worth eating at is packed full with fans.
Once again I must urge the reader to give THE OLIVE GARDEN a try........it is a restaurant, with a wonderful atmosphere and personable help as well! and until later...... arrivederci :-)

When you go to the Iowa River and Power restaurant for a meal it is a dining 'experience'. Located at the corner of 1st Ave. and 5th St. in Coralville, this location has a previous history as a flour mill. http://www.powercompanyrestaurant.com/
You expect something special at IRP as it is affectionately known in the area and that something special is ambiance, good food and good service. You can choose from a menu for varied tastes. The items are however pricey and might spoil some peoples appetites for the food to come. It's a good idea to check menu prices before going to eat. A phone call or a stop during off hours will take care of this.
One of the highlights of dining at IRP is the river view. You can sit inside at a table overlooking the Iowa River and if you are lucky see bald eagles nesting in the trees along the riverbank or soaring overhead. You might want to sit outside on the patio when the weather permits. If river views aren't your thing then ask for a table on an inner wall. The servers are always accomodating.
While this is a popular destination for lunches and dinners, Iowa River and Power also serves a great Sunday brunch from 11 AM - 2 PM.
For a true dining experience go to Iowa River and Power.

This chain restaurant has great menu selections from pizza, to salads and sandwiches, to pasta entrees. The buffet is always wonderful. They include two hot pasta dishes in the buffet as well as hot breadsticks and marinara sauce for dipping, hot cinnamon rolls, a variety of pizzas and a well stocked salad bar. It is all you can eat and believe me you will eat a lot. They constantly stock the buffet so you can always find your favorite item. Their pizzas are the thick Chicago style, Yummy! Service at Old Chicago is good. You will find the restaurant clean and seating is usually available with little or no wait. The beer selection is one of the best in the area with numerous little known brands.
Old Chicago, located on the Coralville Strip or Highway 6 is easy to get to but not always easy to get out of. Reason for this is that while there is a turning lane for getting into the parking lot, the wait to get out because of traffic is somewhat longer. Don't let this keep you from trying this eating place out. There is plenty of parking space available and outdoor seating for nice weather. You will go back again once you have tried Old Chicago.

My mom LOVES Culvers. Of course all of us don't mind 'suffering' to indulge her. The burgers and sandwiches are all very tasty. Then, of course, there is their frozen custard. A treat that our girls look forward to after their kid's meal. The thing we did not realize at first was that you can use your saved 'points' from kids meals and redeem 10 of them for another kids meal.Tasty and fun for the kids. If the kids are happy, mom and dad have a chance. :-)

You want something that tastes good and is easy on your budget? Hit the Pita Pit. They have a variety of choices that will satisfy you no matter if you are a 'carnivore' or an 'herbivore'. And if you are tied to your desk during the lunch hour (or any time) they can deliver! They have their menu on their web site http://www.pitapitusa.com/, so you can call in your order, or know what you want before you go.
Easy on the budget and yummy in the tummy.
That's a combination that is a win-win in my book.

I am a huge fan of Chinese and Japanese cuisine and both my husband and I grasp any chance we can to treat ourselves. So it wasn't it surprise to me that he suggested on visiting th SZECHWAN VILLAGE during the first week our kids were back in school. you see, though we LOVE the cuisine, our boys are more of the "meat and potatoes" type and don't appreciate a great egg roll when they see it!
This restaurant is conveniently located just off the Coralville strip on 10th Avenue, right next door to The Dairy Bar and easily seen from the main strip. It does have a relatively small parking area but when you say that, you have pretty much named all the negative parts of this place. Not only is the food wonderful but it is very reasonably priced and you can get take out or delivery as well!
This place can't be beat for taste, convenience and price....give it a try and you will be a devotee' like me to SEZCHWAN VILLAGE....a great choice for all!

Hey I could do that once famous commercial because I know the beef and lots of other good food is at River City Beefstro. I am impressed by the quality of the food and the size of the servings. The chef salad is enough for a family. Shamelessly I can eat it all. Their burgers are the old fashioned kind that make your mouth water and the fries are the thick almost wedge kind. I also love their chicken entrees. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was fabulous.
Whether you go for lunch or dinner the service it good and the food is memorable. The ambiance is pleasant and if you get a table near the fireplace quite romantic.
