I must prefice this review with the disclaimer that I am in no way responsible for bumps, bruises or frozen toes should you decide to try out this place...BUT I will take credit for all laughter, giggles and general fun you have.....after all I told you first what a good time you would have! LOL
A good time is exactly what you will have when you make the decision to try out CORALRIDGE'S ice arena. The cost is minimal when you think about all the time you have to perfect the sport for the $ plus its a lot of fun just watching others learn to skate. Remember; not to laugh too hard folks or you may be sailing across the ice on your rear end.....not fun, trust me!
If you aren't a skater and don't have an interest in skating yourself it is just as much fun (and less hassle on the old bones) to sit and watch others especially the hockey leagues as they practice. One of my family's favorite things to do is go early to a movie and watch the guys practice. There is nothing like hearing the crack of a hocky stick on ice! Exciting and inspiring all at the same time!!!
Give this place a shot and lose those inhibitions if only for a short while. Remember there are others like yourself who aren't gold medal material either...so tighten those laces, losen up thoe joints and have fun! See you at the mall!

Impossible you say? Not really because I live a little over a block from the 1876 school that has become the site of the Johnson County Historical Society. http://www.jchsiowa.org/JCHSschoolhouse.html
This building has quite a history as it once housed not only school classes but a the second floor auditorium and gymnasium. When the need for classroom space became greater both floors were used as school rooms. Over the years it has done duty as a rec center, a warehouse and a teen center. In 1974 the county leased it for 50 years to be used as the historical center. It was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1976.
Today the school house features a typical 1876 school room on the first floor. Countless groups of school children have visited this 1876 school and taken part in what would have been a school day in the lives of the children of that time, right down to recess and rolling hoops. I had the pleasure of taking part in one of these school days a couple years ago.
Currently the second floor is being renovated into a classroom of the 1940s. This building is truly a sampling of our past. Yes, I heard the school bell this morning. That means a class has come to visit.

In the Iowa City school district, around the age of 10 years old, students are given the opportunity to try out string instruments (sometimes at the vocal opposition of parents and siblings) to see if they in fact are ready to begin a lifelong hobby/career of music.
My son was like most of the others of that age group, initially interested in playing an instrument as well, so wondering what string instruments entailed I decided to take my questions and concerns to RECKS at the suggestion of another parent.
When I entered the store I was warmly welcomed and asked if I needed help. When I explained my mission, not only was their rental polliscy explained to me but I was also shown various instruments that my son might be interested in and the clerk patiently reminded me of the information I had originally learned in "music 101" so many years ago.
Though my eldest did not choose to play a string instrument after all I was (and am ) impressed with RECKS and all they have to offer...and since I have a younger son quickly nearing the age of "string instruments", I expect I once again will seek out RECKS for informaiton and guidance. I suggest you do the same.....they are honest, friendly and fair priced.....a "10" in this mom's book!
