Love this place! It is decorated with beer-can collections, bric-a-brac and other pub paraphernalia. It has that hole-in-the-wall feel, and seating is limited. The staff are friendly and our waitress was great. They have a wide selection of beers and ales, and are known for their fish and chips. They have the best philly hamburger ever. I just wish I had saved room for their fried snickers. There are other locations through out Columbus.

I came to Columbus from a small town. I have never been to a place like the north market before . I walked in and knew the 40 I took with me was not enough for all the things I wanted to buy there. it was more then enough to feed four hungry people with some left over but not for all the stuff i wanted to take home with me. Ok my husband who is a big meat had a couple of things from a butcher there . my friend and I filled up on sushi and curry. our other friend had something from the Vietnamese shop. we ate our food up stairs which was very spacey. I couldn't stop thinking about all the other food I want to try from down stairs. we will go back again soon. when we have the money just to grab whatever we want . this place is a must go if even if your only in Columbus an hour you have to stop in. I have no doubt it will become one usual places to hang out.

I love Wild Oats! It is a full service grocery store with a lot of healthy products. Recently, they've decided to eliminate all products with transfats! This is a great step that others should imitate! They have a lot of organic fruits and veggies and a great bulk foods section. I love the bulk spices, so you can try just a pinch before committing to a whole bottle of something you're not sure you like.
The prepared foods area is great. They have everything from sushi to pizza to soup to tempeh salad. They have both vegetarian and meat-filled options, so it should be able to please everyone at your picnic! I recommend the roasted vegetable salad (when they have it) and their desserts!
They also have a great community room available for your next meeting!

The chocolate here is very good and the staff is always very friendly. I purchased small sampler boxes with 4 pieces in each) to give out at my wedding to people from out of town. I had a hard time parting with them because the chocolate was so good. The packaging was cute, and I thought the price was reasonable. They also sell Buckeyes which you have to love if you live in Columbus!

This is a good place to look for those hard to find ingredients when you are cooking an asian dish. They also have a good selection of unusual seafood, meat and vegetables. It is a decent size store that looks clean and well maintained and the prices are reasonable. They sell miscellaneous asian knick knacks as well.

Whenever we need a good bottle of wine and are looking for something different we go to Stewart's. The employees are incredibly knowledgeable about wines and we just tell them what kind of meal we are serving and they come up with the perfect wine to go with it. The prices are very reasonable and they have a wide variety of wines in different price ranges. The selection is also from across the world so if you are looking for something from a certain country then stop by Stewarts to see if they have what you are looking for.

More
The Winemaker's shop is a great place to purchase winemaking or beer brewing supplies, and they've got kits and ingredients to make root beer and ginger beer if you'd like to try making a carbonated dry beverage. They carry a nice selection of hops and malted/unmalted barley, yeasts, and they give really good advice. For winemakers they carry a nice selection of yeasts, and you can choose between growing your own grapes, or using their juice (may be concentrate, I don't remember).
For the beginner they have everything you need from carboys to bottles...and lots of great books and advice. The owner is often there, and she is very helpful and has years of experience. This is her passion and it shows. I've never found a better place for knowledge or selection in Ohio.

More
It's small, it's neighborhoody, and if you haven't been exposed to the constant pressure and political drama behind the scenes, it's a pleasant place to buy food and feel like, even if you're not making a difference, at least you're not doing any harm. CCM is a community-owned store, meaning the place is owned by the people and the profits go back to the community, not some fat-cat up in Washington or wherever they hang out nowadays. Simply Living shares the space, and you can read up on how to be socially responsible if you feel so moved. They have a nice produce section and it's an easy place to find those healthy edibles that are, actually, becoming easier to find. But they're easier to find in those big, glittery, fat cat stores that we all want to avoid.

This grocery store doubles as an inspiration to aspiring cooks. They offer cooking classes. They have organic foods galore, organic flowers, a large selection of wines and interesting beers, ostrich eggs (in the section near the peppers and cactus leaves), and extensive cafeteria which is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to eat, imaginative/yummy prepped foods (in the butcher area), a nut roasting station, they claim to have over 300 cheeses, and an astounding bakery. Well, in terms of grocery stores, anyway. This one is more on par with Mozart's maybe.
If you like soup, I highly recommend the 3 Squash, over in the cafeteria. If you have been wondering why you have to travel to Italy or Las Vegas for good gelato, you've come to the right place... the Blackberry Merlot (or maybe Cabernet, it was a red wine) tastes like summer break. The pizzas are wood-fired, and I think they are hand tossed, too. They have a huge selection of vegetarian friendly food in the salad bar- yummy curried tofu. You can order the food there, pay for it up front and then eat it in one of 2 dining areas. You can also taste-test.
Things seem to be a bit pricier than Trader Joe's, but the store is about 3x the size, with a more wide ranging selection. Another tidbit: they offer 5 cents credit if you re-use your bags from their store next time around.
