Since I like to believe that I will someday be competent enough to reupholster furniture, I signed up for some beginner sewing classes at the Stitching Post located inside Jo Ann Fabrics. The Stitching Post itself is separate from Jo Ann Fabrics -- apparently there for the purpose of moving some VERY expensive Scandinavian sewing machines**-- but it's a great service nonetheless. Our teacher was incredibly patient despite my extraordinarily poor sewing skills -- sewing in a straight line is a LOT harder than it looks. And now I have a new pair of PJ bottoms that I made all by myself!
**Note: don't buy those sewing machines unless you are very into sewing or very rich. They are great quality but are actually made by the same manufacturer who makes the Janomes for Sears and Brothers at Wal Mart -- for a MUCH cheaper price.

I went to Gahanna Christian Academy (then Evangel Christian Academy) for junior high. I had a blast! We had just moved to Ohio from out of state, and the staff and classmates couldn't have been more welcoming. The teachers there truly care about their students and making sure everyone learns in a positive environment. Even though the school is small when compared to a public school, we still had many wonderful experiences. The friendships I made with my teachers and classmates still continue today - long after leaving GCA.

After a bad experience with a previous dance studio I was very happy to find Northpointe. After calling many studios Northpointe was the only one that offered a combination class for Preschoolers that included ballet, tap and tumbling and wasn't just "creative movement". Northpointe is run VERY well, they are extremely organized and at the beginning of every month there is a newsletter that is passed out to you. The teachers there are the best with the preschoolers. Our teacher has a degree in child development which is a plus. They make the dance very creative, and even have princess costumes, tutus, tiaras, wands and special lights that the girls all get to use at the appropriate times. I am in love with this studio as is my daughter and would recommend it, and already brag about it, to everyone we know!

More
I was introducted to the Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, after feeling that something was not quite right with my son's development. We were referred to FCBMR/DD by Ohio Help Me Grow, at the end of 2005. They "provide for children under the age of six who have developmental delays, disabilities or mental retardation." They assess the child's needs, what goals should be met and how, and work with the parents as well. (They offer great classes for the parents, based on their children's needs). My son was in their summer program this year, and is now in their highly structured preschool program. In addition, he is receiving various types of therapy, to ready him for kindergarden.
I cannot say enough about the people we have worked with up to now. There is so much my son has been improving with since he's been in their program! I would definately recommend this program to anybody whose child has similiar issues, or any more severe.

More
I teach for a drawing program called Young Rembrandts, and I want to share what a great program it is. I've seen kids come into class thinking they can't draw and walk out amazed at what they can do. In this program we teach drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts. We believe drawing is a skill that can - and should - be learned by all children. Our classes combine foundational art skills with a fun, nurturing environment and give your child the academic advantage. We offer continually offer new classes in after-school programs and in your community. Take a look!

This shop has a great variety of fun yarns and other yarn related crafts. Though you may pay a little more than at a superstore, you can not beat the helpful staff at the Yarn Shop. They are very friendly and have helped me on more than one project. Also, check out the class schedule offered, a great way to meat other knitters and learn new techniques.
PROS: Good variety and quality products. Great staff.
CONS: Pricey

When I was new to the Columbus area I was very pleased to find this jewel. The instructors are wonderful. They are very down to earth and encouraging during classes. The atmosphere really helps create a peaceful mind to help aid in the meditative aspects of yoga. Beginners are welcome and encouraged. The location can be difficult for some since it is downtown.
