Do you have a day to spend all to yourself, free time to wonder at will… go visit the Book Loft in German Village. Stop and get a cup of coffee and take it with you as you enjoy room upon room of books on every topic possible. They always have every book I am looking for plus a couple more I didn’t even know I needed. This place is huge and the perfect local to get lost on a rainy day. Stay as long as you like and read, read, read. The management says that’s what the books are there for.

If you have a few hours to kill and could use a cup of coffee or pastry, you may want to head to German Village. First of all, GV is a lovely place to wander around. Secondly, you'll find the Book Loft right by Cup O' Joe.
This labyrinth like, old house of a structure has ONE bathroom and 32 rooms full of books. Take the map offered upon entrance, but resist the urge to look at it until you've twisted back in a few rooms. It's all divided and organized into your typical bookstore sections, with a few atypical ones thrown in. They have quite a large kids book section if you can find someone to read you a good story while you finish off your coffee or tea and relax in a nook on the floor somewhere. You can generally find your selection at a discount, too.
Be careful where you park, though, or you'll end up using your discount to pay part of a parking ticket.

In the heart of German Village lies a gorgeous home. Inside this home is 20 rooms of books, books and more books. You literally will get lost for hours in this place - so if you plan to go, clear your schedule for the day becuase it is an experience. I cant think of a book they dont have, really!
Even if you are not an avid book-liking person, you have got to go just to experience this place. It is so cool, there are multi levels, narrow stair cases that lead to different little rooms and what seems like an endless maze of halls - all leading to books. This is the library that never was!

This is an amazing store packed with books, books and more books. They have books for every age and interest and the store is a full city block long! This is a great place to go not only to shop for books but to experience books and just browse. It's a nice spot for the family on the weekend to do something different together. It can be a little overwhelming to find exactly what you are looking for but the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Don’t go if you are in a rush. This place goes on and on forever in converted German Village houses. There are many stories and several buildings. The courtyard is great. It is the opposite of sterile chain bookstores. There are tons of nooks and crannies hiding book secrets. Not too far from the high street bus.

This bookstore is in the middle of Historic German Village, boasts 32 rooms and refers to itself as "over a city block long," and I'm sure it is. You get a map before going in, and they have new books of every genre. The point is that it's so huge, but it can be a little overwhelming. There's a little garden/courtyard area where you can feel Teutonic and picturesque. Right now they have a deal where if you spend so much you get a free Bible (yes!) For some reason this is where everybody takes their parents when their parents come to town for a visit. I assume it's because it's so easy to lose someone in there...
