Back in the day, this was known as Record Exchange. The unique thing about this store is that all of the goods are locked away, so you must get someone to open up the cases so that you can look at a CD/game/movie. While this is extremely annoying, the prices more than make up for it. If they have too many of anything, the extras go in the bargain bin. What does this mean? If a movie is brand new, but so many people have sold their copies to the store, you can score a copy of it for five bucks! You can't beat that. Then there are the super budget movies that marked down even further. There are also dollar CDs. If you're thrifty and don't mind a second hand item, definitely check this store out.

Sick of paying retail for your multi media entertainment? Remember vinyl records?
A stop at The Exchange is usually worth the trip if you're on your way to pay retail at a chain store for that latest dvd collection. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't. But it will most likely be cheaper than most other places if they do. I say this with some hesitance, as I've found recently that some items are only 1 or 2 dollars cheaper than at say Best Buy. Why would I buy used when I could get new for not a whole lot more? At any rate, be sure to know your prices before you think you've found a great deal here.
One plus, they usually have a bin full of cheesey old vinyl, and cheap. I always find something fun to put the needle to.
The major drawback is this: all of the cases are locked. In order to get a look at anything (save for the vinyl), a sales person needs to open the cabinet. I find this to be seriously annoying. I know it's to cut down on theft and whatnot, but please - treat your customers like they are just that, customers. Not strangers coming to paw at your private collection. I will say that the staff is always at the ready to open a cabinet for you, but it still irks me.

The Memphis Drive In is one of a dying breed, which is too bad. This is the real deal - drive in theater with the squawky sound, a small playground in the area in front of the giant screen, a concession building, and a double feature. Yup, two first run movies for only $7 - kids under age 11 are only $1.
There's also a flea market on the grounds on the weekends - go early or you'll never find anything worth looking at. Better yet, go to Flea Bazaar on Brookpark Road and you won't feel the time constraints of the weekend Memphis Flea Market.
Anyway, imagine how sad the world would be without drive-in theaters. Do you want to live in that world? Do you? No one does and no one should - go to the Memphis and show some love to the past.

Sadly the owner, Peter Smakula, closed the doors in late 2006 and even sadder is that he pasted away this past Sept. 2008. We will miss him and his incredible store. God Bless.

More
The Record Revolution in Cleveland is a traditional-type bookstore from the 1970s. The shop sells shirts and bumper stickers. THey also sell items that might be called "drug-related," but are legal in the state of Ohio.
The store has an excellent choice of posters, many of which are vintage. Many posters are new, but retro-styled.
The store carries records, but also has CDs. They take trade-ins of your used CDs and offer a fair deal. Record Revolution has a large magazine rack and has music and instrument related magazines. You can pick up a wide variety of free mags and weeklies from the Cleveland area.
Parking is tight during the weekdays at work time, but is easier during the evening and on weekends.
There is a bulletin board where indie bands post their information, so it easy to find what is happening on the local scene.

More
My favorite reason for frequenting Video 42 - they never run out of Sunday New York Times. I can come in at 8am or at 4pm, and there's always a couple left.
They also sell all manner of magazines, newspapers and publications you can think of. Plus, they rent videos. Pretty good selection at a decent price too. Candy, gum, cigarettes - your typical news stand fare. But man, I am so glad they are there. It's nice knowing I can count on a local business to always have the paper I want, to always have good service and to pretty much always be open.
So grab a cup of coffee at Bearfields up the street, head down a few blocks, grab your reading material at Video 42, and then go find a park. Enjoy!
