This is the place to see Dave Matthews in Cincinnati. He, and many other like John Mayer and the like, only play this huge venue…and there’s a reason….it fits so many people. The seating is very accommodating. There’s hundreds of seats in the pavilion. And then there’s the lawn, which can hold thousands of people. Just remember to bring your lawn chairs and blankets if you plan to sit in the lawn. There are also jumbo-trons for the lawn. The refreshments are extremely expensive (like most venues).

This is the only place in town where you can see Broadway Musicals…and it’s perfect to do just that. I took my wife to see Cinderella a few years back. The atmosphere is very fantasy and formal (as is expected). The service was more that polite and gracious. We were treated like we were important movie stars in being there.
The quality of the show was unbelievably amazing. I’m sure that most of the shows are like this, but make sure you read a review of the individual show you are planning to see @ the Aronoff. As for the Aronoff Center itself, it is the perfect setting for helping to create a romantic night on the town…downtown Cincinnati.

Mariemont is similar to Esquire in that it shows foreign and independent films. Located in the heart of Mariemont it's a great place to visit for dinner and a movie. The restaurant next door (The Quarter) is wonderful although a little pricey. On the other side of the theatre is Greaters. Ticket prices are lower than what AMC or Showcase would charge.

My favorite type of live arts events are ballets. I love them. I am partial to the Cincinnati ballet, maybe because it is local. Ther performances are at a variety of locations. Most of the ones I have seen have been at the Aronoff. The dancers are very talented and never disappoint me. They will be showing a Midsummers Night Dream in late September.

Going to hear the Pops or the Symphony is a wonderful experience. Both music groups consist of premier musicians and world class conductors. Their shows are entertaining and of the highest quality. They are phenomenal and student prices or same-day tickets make a great buy! Also, the Summer Concert Series is also a lot of fun out at Coney Island!

Playhouse in the Park is located in Mt. Adams near the Art Museum. It is very small and intimate. They usually have lesser known performances there but they always have A Christmas Carol every year around Christmas. I see it every year. The staff is very kind and helpful and the performers are very talented. The prices are reasonable compared to performances at the Aronoff.

This is a classic venue in Cincinnati for intimate to mid-size concerts. It’s a perfect venue for a rock concert. Over the years, I have seen many bands @ Bogart’s, including P.O.D., Blindside, Primus, and Project 86. It is basically one huge rectangular open space. There is a balcony and two bars (one big and one small). There is extremely limited seating (on the balcony and near the big bar), with no seating in the large open space. I only hope that the rumors are not true… (that Bogart’s has been purchased by the University of Cincinnati).

We have rented from the Violin Maker's Workshop for three years. They were the cheapest renter in the area. They rent quality instruments and promptly address any repair issues. They offer a generous equity program and we just purchased a nice full-sized instrument for our daughter at an amazing price. The owner makes his own instruments but these are only for sale not rental. My only complaint is there have been a few book keeping issues like our credit card on file would not ring through there (but everywhere else) but these were easily resolved through a phone call. Otherwise, we have been quite pleased.

Every year Aronoff presents at least a couple of Broadway shows. In the last couple of years the selection has been great including Cats, Miss Saighon and Chicago. The only problem is that you have to catch them during the season, tickets go fast since there are way more takers than scheduled performances. Check them online at ticketmaster to get ahead of the crowd.

Ensemble Theatre has been located in Over the Rhine for the past 20 years. This playhouse has consistently good seasons and definitely a value compared to other local companies. With the addition of the Kroger Garage, you once again have convenient parking. Theatre always has staff after the performance to make sure you safely are returned to your car.
