Don Marcum's Pool Care recently did an inspection for a house we purchased. After the technician completed the inspection, the staff explained to us about a few possible warning signs that the owner did not disclose to us. After having Don Marcum's prove these damages, the owner had the issues fixed and we were able to buy the house without having issues with the swimming pool. This company saved us nearly a thousand dollars. Thank you, Don Marcum.
Pros: Respectful Service Men, Smart Staff

I went to Don Marcum's Pool Care for a second opinion on equipment issues that I had. The original company had told me that I needed to replace the pump and motor because it was squealing. Marcum's said all I needed was the motor - which was 1/2 the price of the first company I contacted - what a relief to find a company not trying to take advantage of the public.
Pros: GREAT SERVICE TECHS.

Don Marcum Pool Care is one of the worst companies that I have ever interacted with in my life. I recently bought a home and wanted to understand if the pool would need any major repairs or service. I paid Don Marcum $175 to complete a pool inspection. The pool inspector maybe spent 5 minutes walking around the pool and then demanded that he be paid $175. The inspector was very rude and said that everything with the pool was fine and that the only thing we needed to do was to fix the cholorine levels in the water. He basically walked into the home, collected a check and then walked out. I specifically asked the inspector if I needed to replace the liner to the pool and he said that there was no need for that type of a repair for several years. 3 months later, my pool leaked hundreds of gallons of water into my backyard and I have to replace the liner ($2,000 - $3.000 repair). Don Marcum claims no responsibility for a negligent pool inspection and said that it's my problem. Perfect, I'm glad that I spent $175 for nothing. I would highly suggest avoiding this company at all costs. They are expensive, negligent, and very insulting on the phone.

My experience w/ Don Marcum started off well. The tech who serviced my spa was professional and knowledgeable. However, the management is absolutely retarded. I had a broken pump and motor -- both under warranty. After giving the tech my co-pay, I didn't hear from Don Marcum for a month. After repeatedly calling the dumb lady who answers their phones (about 8 times), they snottily told me their company couldn't fix my problem, but could only offer a jimmy-rigged temporary solution. And they told me to find another company if I didn't like that idea. For one, this is a warranty call, one already approved by the warranty company. This is free money to solve a problem this company is in business to solve. If a pool company can't fix a broken pool motor, then they aren't worth your time. Besides, talking to the retarded receptionist will give you migraines for weeks. Don't bother with this garbage company.
Pros: the tech should start his own business; he's smarter than Don Marcum
Cons: unable to fix or replace my pool motor; stupidest receptionist ever; does not work withint reasonable timeframes; will rarely respond to calls

I have NO experience with Don Marcum and they may be a decent company but it doesn't sound like it. I just recently bought a home with a pool and I'm finding that pool companies that I've spoke with are just looking to get into your wallet without following thru.
Is there anyone you can trust in Cincinnati to do the work correctly at a fair price?

I'm VERY disappointed with my experience with Don Markum Pool repairs. By what I've been through:
* Their inspection services are worthless. We need a new liner. There were 4 leaks in the pool in the first week after opening including a 4" tear below the skimmer. The replacement service we hired said the liner was obviously brittle and needed replaced.
* Their inspector orally quoted a price, but the service blew right passed it and the management denied that it was ever given.
* They didn't show when scheduled, when they did show they often disappeared w/o doing anything or informing us. Management said that we were lucky that they showed at all because it was their busy time.
* Opening the pool included replacing the motor on the pump, dumping a bunch of shock in the pool and telling us to have a nice life.
* The inspection had no connection to the services provided, even though we told them that up front. (which is why the guys often disappeared... even though they had weeks of notice, they didn't have the right parts on multiple occasions)
We invested $700 dollars in them and nearly as much in a second service (to clean up after them) and still don't have a pool for our 5 kids to swim in. It's looking like we have another $1000 to go to get it usable. If we had had a useful assessment of the pool, we may not have bought the home (there were other issues and this straw probably would have broke the camel's back).
I understand about busy seasons and fast growth, but this company doesn't seem interested in standing up for their work or doing good by there customers. I would avoid them at all costs.
Pros: none
Cons: results

I have used Don Marcum for years. They are the only place in the area that services electric pool covers. I have never had a problem with them of any kind. They are always polite, they do not overcharge and their techs know a LOT about pools. I'm always asking them questions and they always give good tips on how to do things more efficiently. I would highly recommend them.
Pros: Good value, great workmanship.
Cons: Very busy and sometimes takes a few days to get out to your pool.

I am a service tech at Pool Care, being the largest service company in the midwest does present some small problems with the fact that some things do fall through the cracks. We try to do the best job that we can do for the customer, but sometimes, as with all companies, all jobs present some type of challenge to the service tech that is doing the job. We have some of the best techs in the city, and all of our techs are very courteous and presentable to the customer. this review that was written by the customer is an isolated incident . the problem with a pool inspection is that they usually happen when the pool is closed, with the cover on, we cant tell if the pool is o.k. or not. but most customers dont understand that. they dont want to pay the extra money for us to open the pool and do a proper inspection, we cant tell if the pool is good or not without the pool open. and again, most pools are closed and the house is empty because the owner is trying to sell the house. you cant do a proper inspection in that circumstance.
So I hope that one bad review does not affect anyones decision to contact Pool Care for the proper maintenance of your swimming pool, We are the best in the city.
Pros: very competent techs, well dressed and courteous.
Cons: none
