Its really too bad it doesn't have a drive thru. If it did I would be in love. Very friendly owners who are here almost everyday. Nicely decorated and has that homely feel to it. The one think I that stood out the most for me here was I went in late in the afternoon for a cup of coffee and they hadn't served any of what I ordered for sometime and they made a fresh pot just for me. I thought that was really considerate, it was the first time in there, first time ordering that type of coffee so how would I have know if it was old or not.

Cal Java serves really good coffee in a nice atmosphere. If you have the time to sit and enjoy your coffee while working on homework or reading this is the place to go. But if you are looking for a quick cup as you head for work, this isn't the place. Locations have shared parking with other busy shops and close convenient parking spots are not always guaranteed. But the coffee is always fresh and they do have a nice selection of teas and pastries too.

People always tell me how I should support local coffee shops. I did for quite a while, then I saw changes. New people would come and go and the community feeling they once had was gone. I started going to Starbucks about 2 years ago instead of my usual local shop, they were immediately helpful, friendly, and within two times, they knew my name without asking and they knew my drink. They also donate so much of their time and products to local non-profits and other organizations. The coffees there are wonderful, and they truly know how to make a good Misto! (Cafe Ole) Thanks Starbucks for all you do and thanks to Kelly especially for hooking me up with some good business contacts!

These drive thru stations are a great alternative from the many starbucks that you see all over town. With two drive thrus and staff that run out to start your order when there are cars in front of you the line moves very quickly. With the frequent buyer card you get that added bonus of working towards free coffees or pastries. And their pastries are some of the best in town too.

My review of the other location: These drive thru stations are a great alternative from the many starbucks that you see all over town. Now what is different here: The location! At the corner of East and Esplanade this Java Detour is a lot easier to get in and out of. No road construction, no traffic from Chico High or Chico State. Plus the corner is a bit bigger so you don't have to worry about sticking out in traffic if you can't pull all the way in.

I would love to say that I love this place -- but I can't. Its is so close to work for me that I honestly wish I could drink the coffee but I can't. I have tried 3 separate occasions and it wasn't good. Each time it gave me heartburn. Something I would like to avoid when possible. However, I have had the hot chocolate from here and that was good.
