I travel quite a bit and strangely enough the quality and prices in this mall are WAY better than malls out in the country. You won't waste your time looking through crappy garage sale leftovers here, as everything is vintage.
I recently bought a great painting here at a great price and my wife loves the vintage clothing and jewelry.
They have everything from mid-century furniture to jewelry, painting, World's Fair, old magazines and posters, primitives, old photos, advertising signs and more.
A friend of mine bought a gold ring worth about $200, for $18, so there are deals and the dealers seems to bring new stuff in pretty often.
I like Broadway Antique Mall right down the street, but I think the prices are a little better at Edgewater.

Admittedly, the owner does come across as a bit intimidating, but that said, I can't blame her. She has gorgeous, old clothes that can be fragile and I've been to enough stores to see how customers often manhandle garments. They're her livelihood and she has every right to be careful.

If you're only looking for "vintage" Halston or Valentino (you can hardly call items from the 80's or 90's vintage), Lulu's is not for you; it's not a place for the label-obsessed (unfortunate if you believe that high-end designers corner the market on great fashion). They're there, but for the most part, Lulu's carries items that are not so identifiable---that's what makes it great.

She could immediately tell what size I was just by looking at me. She pulled out dresses for me to try on and was very accommodating. The owner even brought pieces for me to try on that were not on the main floor, such as two exquisite flapper dresses from the twenties and the dress I eventually bought, a long, black lace and silk dress with beautiful pleating from the thirties. She knew I wouldn't buy them all, but because I loved her store so much, she allowed me to have fun. And I did. My mother came with me and chatted amiably with the owner and seamstress and also had a ball.

The prices are high for a reason: the clothes are truly extraordinary and unique. You won't find them anywhere else. I've been to plenty of "vintage" stores where they basically cater to the mildly retro Urban Outfitters set and hence, they're cheap. Lulu's is very different from this and that's reflected in the quality of the wares, customer service, and the cost of the items.

I'd rather purchase clothes from someone who has opinions and won't sell just anything to you regardless of whether it actually suits you. This person will gain my trust because I know they're not looking to make a quick buck off me. The owner's passion for clothes is palpable and worthy of admiration. I will definitely come back.
Pros: Great customer service, fun, gorgeous and unique clothes
Cons: Not everything sold online, unfortunately

I come in to McShane's quite a lot- to both locations- and while the clothes are great and the girls are always helpful and friendly, I recently had a couple of amazing experiences at the Webster location. A pretty, young saleswoman (who later introduced herself as Isabelle) greeted me both times the instant I walked through the door. She was charming, polite, funny and made nice conversation, and let me shop without being pushy in the least. Every now and then I would hold up an item and ask for her advice. She answered honestly and was very articulate about certain styles and trends, which showed she knew a lot about fashion and what looks good on several different women's body types. I felt confident in her expertise so I modeled a few fashions for her from the dressing room and she truly helped me find the right items to fit me and my style. The second time I came into the Webster location, Isabelle was there (and remembered me) and even though it was considerably busier than the previous time, she took time to stop what she was doing and help me find more great clothes. Not only that, she assisted several other women in the store the exact same way. She took preference over no one and was always smiling. On top of that, I found at least 6 or 8 pieces to buy that day and only spent about $75, too. Both these experiences at McShane's were of such high quality that I went home and bragged to one of my girlfriends on the phone about what a great store it is. When I mentioned how pleasant Isabelle was, she immediately knew who I was talking about and told me about a similar experience she'd had with her at the store. This young woman makes every customer feel special and important and truly feel beautiful in the clothes they are wearing, no matter what age, color, size or shape. I hope that if you haven't been to McShane's, you will consider stopping in not only for the excellent deals on great clothes, but to enjoy a truly personal shopping experience!
Pros: excellent customer service and amazing clothing selection/price!
Cons: none

A must-visit if you appreciate high fashion at bargain prices. I'm an avid consignment shopper (and consignor!) and have been to my fair share of shops from Arizona, to NY to Milwaukee, and of course...Chicago. This is absolutely one of my favorites.
Browse the many racks of dresses, outerwear, skirts, denim, shoes and more...all of which are organized by color and size, making it very easy if you are on a hunt for something particular. The racks are just comfortably filled as well, unlike many other shops I've been to where the merchandise is so terribly crammed in it hardly entices you to make the effort to dig through the mess to uncover that one "find".
Kona has a magnificent eye for high fashion and really knows her stuff. Obviously inventory varies daily, but on any given day you'll find a great selection of Gucci, Prada, St. John, Yves St. Laurent, Stuart Weitzman, and more that have been very gently used. Items are priced fairly, not only for the buyer, but for the consignor as well. A win-win in this economy....
Consignment is also very simple.....bring your items in during their receiving hours and Kona will determine on the spot what they can take for sale and provide you with a consignment agreement (50/50 split). Then.....just sit back and wait for your check to come in the mail! If you so choose, you may pick up any unsold items by their pick up date, or opt to have the items donated. Could it be any easier?!
Normally I'd keep a diamond in the rough like this my own little secret, but this family owned and operated shop has a great story, wonderful people, and really cares about its business and the clientele that support it....so I think everyone should know about it!
So why are you still reading this?! Get on over there before someone else snags your new Gucci shoes!

I've bought 3 formal vintage dresses from Wacky Cats. The store has a lot of variety but mainly specializes in the 50's era. Each time I've been here, Karen (the owner) always helps me in choosing the perfect dress. She's very knowledgeable in her decades of fashion and alterations. Wacky Cats also carries jewelry, 'novelty' t shirts and Men's vintage clothes.
Pros: Great prices for unique clothes!
Cons: Small selection of men's clothing

I've been here dozens of times and picked up tons of great used books. The store is a little hard to navigate at first and I don't suggest you go there with a specific book in mind, instead look for new books and take a chance on them. The books are cheap enough that you can pick up a few everytime you go. The store is multi leveled and they sell newspapers up front, but no magazines. The employees are very nice and it's very cozy inside the store. Parking on milwaukee is extremely difficult due to the sheer number of stores in the area.
PROS: cheap used books
CONS: hard to find specific titles
