I take Metra daily and they are more often on time than not. But I often feel that Metra does not treat its daily riders as well as they could. Ticket prices went up recently and, with having to take CTA too, my budget is a little strapped.
Of course, there is a "link-up" card, but if you ever go to the RTA web site, you will find it difficult to find information on this service.
Generally clean--just don't use the bathrooms--except when Cubs and Bears fans ride. They spill beer and leave cans rolling everywhere. I think there should be 1 car especially devoted to them, so the regular riders can read, sleep, chat and listen to music in peace!

CTA needs to get with the times. I almost always use public transportation in other cites and have found that the CTA, while not the worst, doesn't even make it to my top 5 (Bern [or any Swiss city], London, New York, Cologne and D.C.). Aren't there enough world-wide examples for us to be able to develop a better system? AND a better business/budgeting plan?
Why are we paying more for the same (and in some cases, worse) shitty service? Late busses and trains, piggy-backing busses, poor station upkeep, poor train/bus upkeep, etc. etc. etc. And the Red Line--has anyone ever cleaned those train cars?

Unlike with the CTA, I am pretty impressed with the Metra. It sure makes a commute between the city and the suburbs smooth, fast, and easy.
Of course, you get your ocassional quacks here too, but I find it much less frequent here. They are also better priced and better in terms of cleanliness and timliness.
No can't the CTA learn a few lessons from this great Metra transportation system we have here?
