There are four words that may get me kicked out of the female human race: I really hate shopping. Yes, it's true. There are actually some of us that do. But I go here once in a while to enjoy gazing at the new stores, the pretty mall, and I get a kick out of the glass elevators. Some of the stores are too trendy or snooty for me, but I do enjoy visiting Food Life in the lower level. Overall, for people that love, A) more tourists than you thought humanly possible to occupy a building, and B) Lots of la dee da stores, well, this is your heaven on earth. Enjoy!

This mall is real nice. Its more of a tourist attraction. Whenever people visit Chicago, they always make a visit here. Its like eight stories high with many clothing and access. stores. I find the shops to be okay. There's never many sales here. Also, a lot of the stores have been closing down recently so its looks pretty empty. The only thing I really find amusing here is the way the building is designed..other than that its okay.

I'd say that for most people, Water Tower Place is best viewed as a tourist attraction more than a functional mall. If you're looking for high-end retailers, specialty boutiques, and you are too lazy to walk down to the Marshall Fields on State, then Water Place is for you. My wife and I did some window shopping when we were first in the market for wedding rings. Granted, the experience is upscale and customer service is part of the package-- however, prices here are just really high. I still suggest visiting every once in a while; browsing at Water Tower Place will make you feel like a million dollars even if you don't have it to spend.

I think the fun of this mall is just in the going - doing something that is trademark Chicago, you know? The mall is poorly laid out but it's fun to go up and down the elevator, and even though it's not the best design there is something enchanting about it that keeps us coming back. We don't go often because we usually are only window shopping when we go, but when we do go it is pretty fun.

That about sums it up...Water Tower is boring and overpriced. It's also a total tourist trap. Everytime I go there, I never buy anything. I just wander aimlessly through the poorly planned mall wondering who the hell in their right mind would pay that much for all that crap in the Sharper Image. The best part of Water Tower is the candy store FAO Schweetz. It's overpriced...but it's candy!!

I think the Water Tower is totally over rated and not really all that great. For one, there are two department stores, both of which are so weirdly set up and hard to get around that people like me tend to just give up. Inside the mall, the stores are sparse and everything at these stores is overpriced. The only thing that offeres some relief is their food court on the bottom floor. That place just alone is worth making a trip to the Water Tower. Otherwise, just stick with the other shops on state st.

The overall look of this mall and the way it was designed is very cool and attractive but, it's not exactly my favorite place to shop. Most of the stores are of course overpriced and this mall is overcrowded much of the time. One of my favorite things about this mall is Foodlife that is inside. There are so many tourists and snobs here so it is only charming to visit here once in a while or head straight up to Foodlife for a snack or for a cup of coffee.

Perhaps I was spoiled growing up in the suburbs, about a mere 10 minute drive from Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. To me, that is what a mall is supposed to be - that's my standard. So even though Watertower is all well-known and sometimes acclaimed as THE mall in Chicago, I was never impressed. The prices are as high as can be and while there's many levels, each floor is not very big. There's only a few stores I like there but they are also in more convenient locations. I just never felt that pleased with this mall and have gone only maybe two times since I've lived in the city (which is about 3 years).

I, like Sarah B., used to work in Water Tower. I'm kind of disappointed that things are changing around a lot. Apparently, the store rent in Water Tower went up significantly, so that's why so many stores are changing around. I went recently, and stores are closed, or there are temporary locations set up (which are never as good as the real store). Maybe in a few months things will be better, but for right now, I think Water Tower isn't nearly as good as the larger, individual stores you find for many of the shops on Michigan Avenue or State Street.
