This is a really nice little comedy theater in Chicago. I have only been here a couple of times, but each time I have gotten to see a different comedian and each one was absolutely hilarious.
You will really enjoy this club because not only are the shows good but the whole atmosphere is fun and lively. It is a small theater and it feels very comfy. Make sure to try to call in beforehand and reserve seating and find out their specials too.

Over the years I have seen many plays at Victory Gardens. This is one of the places that if you are an aspiring Chicago playwright, you can get your play read and even performed.
You climb the stairs to enter a surprisingly intimate space. Sitting down, prepare yourself to be immersed in the magic of theater, Chicago style.
Now they are growing and I see on their website that they are talking about taking over the Biograph down the street. More power to 'em!

The Vic is one of Chicago's premier concert venues. For Ticketmaster shows, they have tickets available at the box office for cheaper. Besides hosting touring music groups, the Vic is the home of Brew N' View: three sorta-related movies with beer and bar food served. It makes for a fun evening for pretty cheap.

Is it me, or are soap opera actors some of the worst?! Sure, there are your Davd Canary's and your Peter Bergman's, but for every one of them, there are 1,000 really bad actors.
That is what makes me appreciate Steppenwolf even more. They have GREAT actors here, and great writing. If there is one thing I truly appreciate, it's great acting and writing. This place is famous throughout the country for bringing in some of the best talent in theater. I am so impressed with what they do here and that they represent the best of the best. I also appreciate that they have their own parking facility because parking is impossible in this area on most days.

Stage Left, located on North Sheffield, may seem an unlikely spot to find great theatre in a town with such giants as the Goodman and Steppenwolf, but you'll be surprised at the high quality of the acting. I had gotten HotTix for a performance here, and was apprehensive of what would be delivered up when I entered the tiny staging area. Of course, sets are minimalist given the space limitations here, but that just brings the acting to the fore. You get raw theatre, and the acting shines. Best of all, it's affordable theatre that you don't have to break the bank to see. I encourage everyone to step out of their theatre comfort zone and give it a try. I was very surprised at the good quality of theatre there, and you will be too. Just give yourself plenty of time to find parking on the weekend, or better yet, cab it there.

The new name for this historic theater and building is the LaSalle Bank Theatre. Did you notice how many banks and corporations are naming things after themselves these days. The theatre is celebrating it's 100th birthday this year. Beautiful architecture both inside and out grace this building that was first called the Majestic Theatre in 1906. Starting next month will be a play featuring the very funny and wacky Martin Short entitled Martin Short:Fame Becomes Me.

What a wonderful place for a comedian to launch their career. This infamous place started many a successful career including the late, great John Belushi, who is one of my all time favorites.
The techers here are a big part of why so many of these students of comedy went on to be so famous. If you look at their website you will see how many went on to SNL fame or movies or both.
Improv is not easy, and sometimes some of these people choke live in front of a crowd, but that is the best training ground for a comedian. A fun place to enjoy an evening.

It was a pretty good show - basically it's an hour and a half of people acting (and supposedly singing) like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Joey Bishop.
We were given accessible seats in the theater, but they weren't that accessible. We had to get my wife out of the wheelchair and into a seat because the wheelchair could not be maneuvered into a view of the stage.
I did enjoy the show. it was written by Sandy Hackett, son of the late Buddy Hackett. Sandy portrayed Joey Bishop. The best voice belonged to the actor who portrayed Sammy Davis. The actor portraying Sinatra had a solid voice and was pretty good with the mannerisms. I didn't like the Dean Martin actor. he didn't have much of a singing voice and it seemed like the part he was portraying wasn't really singing seriously.
The Joey Bishop part wasn't all that funny, but sometimes Joey wasn't all that funny.
The instrumental musicians were wonderful.
So, we all hgad a very good time. Having the cast shake hands with the attendees on the way out was a bonus.
It was a pretty sparse crowd (maybe 40% full, not including the balcony) for a name Chicago theater on a Saturday night.

We Chicagoans are so proud of this theatre. What a beautiful place. Good acoustics surrounded by a regal looking decor. Right in the heart of downtown with plenty of things to do all around. Remodeled a few years ago. Some of the biggest productions come thru here, including the long running Wicked.
