The Venue
Snuggled in a bustling stretch of Wells Street just south of North Avenue amid all the restaurants, bars and framed art stores, A Red Orchid Theatre is at the end of a long, brick-lined hallway. The "lobby" is the size of a walk-in closet, but the staff is friendly, and there's a fish tank to watch as you wait in line. The theater itself, which seems to seat around 70, feels more claustrophobic than most theaters of its size because of the low ceiling. Bring a cushion: The chairs are murderously hard.

The Theater
You won't find much in the way of improv comedy or musicals. A Red Orchid seems to go in for the grittier stuff, producing plays by Eric Bogosian and Eugene Ionesco. The actors and technical staff are top-drawer.
