It says Tea, but the Coffee is good too! 5/19/2006

Argo has a great tea selection, but they also serve Illy brand coffee--their lattes are better than Starbucks! Let me repeat: ARGO TEA'S LATTES ARE BETTER THAN STARBUCKS'! The spinach quiche is divine, as is the rugalach. They also are now using a "card" system for their tea club. Every dollar you spend equals 100 points; points add up to equal a free tea or coffee, and possibly food (I was only 1/2 paying attention to the cashier--he was too cute!). more

Argo Tea 5/3/2006

Argo is a tea-lovers' version of Starbucks, only a little more low-key and much less caffeinated. My sister is an employee and an absolute fan, and I must agree that Argo brews up some delicious drinks. Although I'm not a huge tea fan, I can always find something that I enjoy, the chocolate mint tea drink just to name one. The only drawback is that this is gourmet tea, so expect to pay just as much for your mate lattes as for caramel machiattos. I suggest the Illy coffee, too-- it's great. more

Tea for two but no more 3/12/2006

The selection of tea and tea drinks at Argo Tea is a refreshing change from the Starbucks craze. I like the mate latte and the bubble teas. An assortment of pastries and sweets, as well as salads, sandwiches and quiches, are ready to be served with your drink of choice. The staff seems nice and the interior is calming, with light green and white paint and dark shelves with tea and tea accoutrements for sale. However, seating is extremely limited and this place can get very, very busy. Summer is better when outdoor seating is available. Parking is not easy in this area, and the prices here reflect the neighborhood too. more

Tea.. 3/8/2006

This is a great place for anybody who is a big fan of tea. While I am not a fan of tea, I still enjoy going here for several other reasons. One, they have some great snacks here, including a few good sandwhich options for lunch. Second, the location is great and its the perfect place to people watch or get some reading done. Third and perhaps most importantly, they have free wi-fi here. So, whether or not you are a tea drinker, you should be able to find something here for yourself! more

Tea 2/20/2006

This is one of the few places in Chicago that really does tea justice. They emphasize tea and have tea in so many different varieties and flavors. Its fun to go and either enjoy a nice cup of tea in their cafe or even to take a whole bunch of bags home to enjoy at your own leisure. I also love to buy their cute gift packs to give as gifts. It always makes a great gift because its so great tasting and healthy too. They also serve some light snacks, which complement their teas really well. Make sure to try thei Chai Latte; its really great! more

The Best Of The Best 2/12/2006

At Argo Tea, there truly is something for everyone. The tea is second to none with a gigantic variety of loose teas, everything from your basic black teas, green teas (yes, there are multiple varieties!), the elusive and extremely healthy white teas, and a huge variety of tisanes (herbal teas, like Chamomile, Jasmine and Rooibos) and flavored teas of all of the above. Teas aside, they have a full coffee bar where, if not a "tea person," you can cappuccino, latté, and brevé to your heart's content, with illy, the world's best and most consistent coffee. Did you know that Illy invented espresso and the espresso machine? The coffee is never burnt and the lattés are fantastic. Even on top of the basic tea and coffee, there's more! The Chai and Chai Latté at Argo is like an art form; actual loose tea is used rather than some powder or mix, and the result, if a Chai fan, is phenomenal. Additionally, their Maté Latté is to die for. And the PASTRIES, my lord the pastries! Most (the croissants, quiches and a few other things) are purchased from Sweet Thang bakery, and all the others (like chocolate cheesecake brownies and lemon blossoms) are also obtained from local bakeries to promote local business. Very cool, huh? The reason I promote the Armitage location is simply that it was the first, and the only one that existed before July. The environment in Lincoln Park is completely different from those at the other two downtown locations (State&Randolph, Rush&Pearson) - cozy, small and incredibly well-suited to studying, newspaper reading, or croissant-ing in the morning on the way to work. One drawback is that their expansion seems to be affecting the pastry selection, as I suppose some of the caterers simply cannot keep up any more with all of the demand with the new opening stores. The croissants and quiches, though, are not only staying, but they really and truly are the absolute best, most delicious, most easily obtained of their class. Good luck! Even you can get excited about tea and a tea shop! more

Gourmet tea at a price 1/29/2006

Argo Tea is the tea lover's heaven. It's got an amazing selection of loose tea to choose from, and if you're looking for something adventurous, it's got that, too. Try the matte latte, my personal favorite. This tea doesn't come cheap, though. If you're looking for the best Earl Grey you've ever had, be prepared to shell out several dollars. If you're not sure what you want, ask the barista for a sample or a suggestion; they're often very helpful. more
