There food is great and the sangria is soooooooooo good. :-)
I can't say I've ever had a bad experience. And there is always a wait but well worth it. Try the gambas de ajo yum!
Dont go anywhere else or try another place. This is it people. lol

My mom and I ate there together, and we both agreed that it was an awesome restaurant. We sat at the bar first and enjoyed a couple drinks. The bartender was awesome. There was a dripping ceiling, which was kind of annoying, but the bartender tried to clean it as well as he could.
The waitress was okay. She wasn't overly nice, but that's maybe preferred. We made our own antipasto tray, which was fun and tasted good. My mom ordered a shrimp and fettucine dish, which came out before my pasta. That was a little annoying. I guess the idea is to share, but I don't like shrimp. So I had to wait for my food. When my pasta arrived, it was very good. Their marinara sauce is excellent.
I would recommend this place to anyone. It has some really good Italian food, good wine list, and fair prices.
Pros: Excellent food and drinks
Cons: Food comes when it's ready

I did a fair amount of online research prior to our visit to Chicago and was so happy I decided to give Avec a try. I wanted to eat somewhere hip, but not over the top serious with the food (I'm not into foams and gelees). I also wanted somewhere that offered small plates so my husband and I could share a few. The food was really nice...especially the cheese our server selected to pair with our wine. We also got a duck dish that was so so...it had a cold salad on top of it that just didn't seem to mesh well. All in all, I would recommend Avec to anyone wanting to sample several small dishes and have fabulous wine pairings.
The atmosphere is somewhat raucous (read: noisy), so if you're hoping for a quiet, romantic evening try somewhere else. Avec is ideal for a group of friends...but get there early as tables can be hard to get in this small eatery.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The key is to always make reservations through Open Table. The atmosphere is fun & loud and perfect for big groups, such as birthday parties or girls night out. The blue cheese steak and spicy potatoes are a must!
Pros: outdoor seating, great sangria, yummy specials
Cons: always make reservations!

My boyfriend and I went to National 27 for dinner last night...we were a little apprehensive because we saw some bad reviews...but decided to try it anyways. We both love tapas, and me being Hispanic I am very picky! But we loved this place! The grilled lamb tacos and smoked chicken empanadas were amazing. We also got the mojito flight.....best mojitos in the city..hands down! For an entree we selected the Roasted Organic Chicken and Grilled Smoked Pork Tenderloin Adobado....they were delicious! The service was great and very helpful..they even started us off with a mini appetizer on the house! We will definitely come back here!
Pros: Great food, amazing drinks

My husband and friends wanted to take me out for dinner and drinks before meeting up with a bunch of people for my 30th birthday celebration. After finding out that the initial restaurant I wanted to dine at had a 3 hour wait, we stumbled down to Flatwater per the suggestion of a member of our party. Let me just say, what a blessing in disguise that the other place had such a long wait! Everything that we ate and drank here was wonderful! We started with the Gaspacho (sorry if that is spelled wrong), that was definately a loose interpretation, which, in our foody book, is always a pro! There was a hint of cinnamon which made it to die for! My husband and I decided to split our meals. I chose the seared Ahi Tuna, while he picked the Short ribs! YUM! Both melted in our mouths. The other 2 diners in our party had Short ribs as well, and the Pork Chop. My husband and I are usually not Pork Chop fans, but, this dish made us change our mind! Delicious prep, tender, and the fennel mashed potato garnish was amazing!
Oh, and we can't forget drinks! Blueberry Mojitos! AWESOME!!!!
The waitstaff was nothing but accomodating, and at the end of our meal, we made sure to tell our waitress how awesome the meal was. She said she would pass that onto the chef. She wasn't kidding! He came out to speak with us! Told us that their pork chop is custom cut from a vendor up north, that he frequents the local farmers markets for his produce, etc. He was just a joy for us to speak with!
oh, and don't forget the view! Being a chicagoan my entire life, I never get sick of sitting outdoors and looking at my city!
Def give this hidden gem a shot, I think you'll like it!
Pros: Great outdoor dining!
Cons: Noisy boats (and those aren't even that bad)

We went to Cafe Bolero early on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was very charming. I liked the open kitchen. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. When she found out that this was our first time there, she spent additional time making some recommendations from the menu. The combination platter of tapas was a wonderful option to sample of some of there offerings. Nicely presented with a variety of tantalizing flavors. The roast pork and vegetarian stuffed peppers were flavorful and ample. The total bill came to under $50 for two with one cocktail each. Not bad for a city location. Parking was a little inconvenient, but not a serious problem.
Pros: Reasonable prices, delicious food
Cons: parking

Let me start by saying, if you haven't been to Coobah you need to check it out. A couple friends and I wondered in on a Thursday for dinner. What a pleasant surprise! They had a cuban jazz band playing live music throughout our meal, which just added to the already cool ambience. The decor is warm and inviting and the staff was very friendly. The bartender was quick with a couple recommendations--try the Caipirinha with strawberries or the delicious Pisco Sour (wasn't on the menu, but the manager mixed us up one). Oh, and Thursday is $5 mojito night. So, needless to say, we sampled all of their variations. Food was outstanding. I'll be jonesing for the Clam and Chorizo Chowder until I can get back there. We had a jerked chicken and plantain dish and spicy mussels for appetizers(both great). For entrees we had the Hanger steak with chipotle mashed potato, the pork tenderloin with shrimp and bacon, and a chicken dish with chilaquiles. They were all so good, we just passed each dish around the table and sampled.
For dessert, a spicy chocolate mousse infused with Patron XO tequila--Awesome!! I will most definitely be back.
Pros: Ambience, Cocktails, Food, Live Music, Service, Parking lot,
Cons: I want a Coobah in Wicker Park.

My coworkers and I recently celebrated our bosses bday with a night at Sangria. My boss is a pretty uptight guy but the service and menu here were so good that even HE had a good time! The staff was prepared to handle our large party (17) and even very nice about helping us. We're working on booking our holiday party there now. The valet helped TREMENDOUSLY!
