This was a place frequented very much by Al Capone himself. So when you step into this place, you will be surrounded with little tid bits of history, including Al Capone's life and his secret tunnels. This place has an awesome atmosphere that is always fun to be at. The jazz music played here just adds to the setting and you feel like you have stepped back into time. The crowd here is pretty laidback and you will see a lot people trying to dress like Al Capone as well.

Green Mill is a famous place around this town. This club will take you back to the days when jazz was "it". Where cool cats in zoot suits and and gold watches partied and danced the night away. Well you may not see anyone dress like that here anymore but little has probably changed inside since then except what they will charge you for a drink or for a show. Nowdays they feature up and coming jazz performers and occasionally a national artist. The night I was here the barmaids service was not very good however. The neighborhood can be kinda funky so keep that in mind.

The Green Mill is a quintessential jazz club, so don't come here expecting to shake your groove thing to techno. If you're a fan of a sitting back and soaking in some great jazz, then this is for you. I'm not a huge mixed drink lover, so I found the beer selection a little limited for my liking. It's also usually packed, so either find a "regular" with a reserved table or expect to squeeze yourself into a corner. Overall, a great evening out.

The Green Mill was a speakeasy back in the days of Al Capone, and it appears not to have changed much since. The cash register is clearly very old, and it's really cool looking, but it has the unfortunate habit of chiming and clanging during bass solos and other quiet parts of songs.
These days, the Green Mill is one of the foremost jazz clubs in Chicago. Kurt Elling and Patricia Barber both have standing gigs there, and both are well worth the $7 cover. Get there early, or else you'll be jammed in back with the loud men who came to pick up girls and can't be bothered to shut up so that you can hear the music. The front is quiet (and non-smoking) and you can sit practically within arm's reach of the musicians. The drinks aren't cheap, but they aren't ludicrously expensive. Every time I've gone, there's been street parking out front.

This is not the kind of place to go if you plan on having conversations all night. In here, it is really just about going to listen to some good music. It's primarily a jazz club, and the cover varies depending on the night. Tables near the stage and on the floor are very, very hard to come by. Seats at the bar are a little bit easier to get. They do not serve food and the cocktails are pretty standard. If you are making too much noise they will not hesitate to ask you to be quiet. Wait until there's a break in the performance to really talk. Still it is a nice place and very reminiscent of the era in which jazz was first popular.

This is a really neat jazz club which will make you feel like your back in the 1920s. The atmosphere here is so amazing. The decor, service, and music all come together for one amazing setting. Even if you are not a fan of jazz music itself, you'll keep coming back for more becauze the atmosphere here is so great and there's lots of friendly (and pretty ;) ) people frequenting here too. Make sure to get a taste of the past at this cool jazz club.

I went here real drunk, with the appropriate and skepticism-spurning hype. It turned out to be pricey, but cool. LIve Jazz all the time, in a bordello-y, jazz club-y, vaudvillian venue. Apparently, The Green Mill Cocktail lounge is a fixture in the Chicago Jazz scene, though I saw people who looked like the stepped out of their high school yearbook as well as people who looked like they haven't left the place in thirty years. I'd recommend it to someone, for something different.

The Green Mill was a speakeasy during prohibition and has also been featured in movies; the one I half remember it gets blown up. So it is fairly called legendary.
Now it is a venue for jazz most nights and also hosts the long running poetry slam. This place has a classic lounge look to it, and serves the usual mix of drinks.
The problem for me has been that the ventilation is pretty poor so it gets filled up with second hand smoke pretty quickly. This drives me out; I have a limited tolerance for other people's smoke.
If you can handle the smoke, it is a great authentic environment to hear some good Chicago jazz or some rowdy poets.

Green Mill has excellent live jazz music. The cover is low (around $15 on the weekends) and drinks are reasonable as well. The club is small, so get there early to get a good seat. They strictly enforce the "no talking rule" during the sets, so don't go if you're in a chatty mood.
