I visited here for the first time last night, and was surprised and impressed by its comfortable, nice surroundings [I expected it to be mostly bar!] including the great fireplace. The food is great, I do recommend the southport chicken as well as the ribeye steak. Staff is friendly but not overbearing and there were people there dining or drinking but it felt homey and not crowded. I'll definitely be back.

...avoid on the weekend. The crowd during the weeks seems to be a tad bit older, more professional crowd that enjoys a calm beer and good burger after a long day at work. On the weekends, it is way to crowded and loud, while the service far to slow to keep up, to really enjoy the place. The drink specials during the week are excellent. Would definitely return.

This place is surprisingly upscale for a neighborhood tavern off the beaten track. The rooms' historic feel (the building is over a century old) was enhanced by a 1979 renovation. The kitchen features standard bar appetizers, salads, sandwiches and an entree list tailored to meat and potato lovers. The bar serves a full range of liquors and a modest selection of bottled and draft beers. The laid-back surroundings make the saloon a popular destination for dates and groups of friends. For better or worse, televisions positioned in the bar, dining room and two-table pool room ensure access to sporting events no matter where you are.
