A couple weeks ago, the Reader featured an article about the history of Harold's Chicken Shacks in Chicago, including a piece by a man who had eaten at every one. He talked about some of the best and some of the worst, but his scoring mechanism included the cleanliness of the store front and other things that frankly mean little to me beside the out-and-out deliciousness of the chicken. [/digression] [point] I've only been to the Harold's in Hyde Park, and I don't know how it compares to the others, but I do know that I love it. The disadvantage is that you have to go in a wait for a pretty long time to get your food. The advantage, of course, is delicious fried chicken from a venerable Chicago institution. I like the 3 piece dark with fries and hot sauce. I don't remember exactly how much that'll set you back, but less than $4.
