Mystic Celt is an Irish bar located in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area of Chicago. It has a bar area and seating for those there for a meal. The menu is pretty good. I have enjoyed chicken sandwiches in the past and most recently really enjoyed the nacho platter which you can have chicken, beef or even chili on top! I chose the chili and it was great! The beer list is just so-so. I was not overly impressed. If you want to go socialize, listen to loud music and possibly dance this would be an ok place to go. But I just stick to grabbing a bite to eat.

Well last night this place provided a much welcomed relief from the insane crowd at SoPo after midnight. Conveniently right across the street and still very near the brown line Southport stop, Mystic Celt had much more floor and seating space and service at the bar was much more reasonable. So even though there definitely were plenty of people there, the effects on everyone else were not as great. It's nice to be able to actually move your arms or walk around once in a while! I thought the decor was somewhat lacking, as the interior aesthetics were rather bland, but that's a minor detail compared to everything else.

The Mystic Celt is one of those typical Irish watering holes that’s extremely popular precisely because it is not too popular—in other words, it’s packed on weekends but not so much that you have to wait in a long line to get in. This bar and restaurant (although I haven’t eaten here yet—just drank) is quintessentially Wrigleyville, complete with the type of twenty- and early thirtysomethings (think the cast of “Friends”) who lounge around, drink, dance/jiggle a little (if it’s not too packed), and try to converse with those of the opposite sex as the night wears on—and the Mystic Celt works well to encourage such behavior. The interior itself is very crisp and inviting, and the usual suspects are included: TVs showing SportsCenter and popular music pumping in the background. On a few occasions, I’ve seen a new-girlfriend-encounters-ex-girlfriend hissing contest, which makes for a nice diversion, but for the most part the patrons remain cocky but tame.
