Ann Sather is a Chicago institution, for good reason. Their breakfasts are legendary, with huge portions and a large variety of ingredients and classic variations (crab cake Benedicts, anyone?). The lunch menu is kinda standard with a few sandwiches, but the dinner is as impressive as the breakfast. Plates are $7-$15 or so. The staff is friendly, though sometimes harried by numerous patrons. Sunday brunch, the place is packed, and it's easy to see why.

Ten dollars for dinner entrees, which inludes salad.
If you don't want to wait for weekend crowds, just get the rolls to go at the take out counter.

This is THE place to go to for gourmet breakfast food. Though pricier than IHOP and the hash browns, it is completely worth it. My favorite is the salmon and poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. Everything is delicious and going there was just a wonderful experience. The people are nice and the setting is quaint. Parking there is difficult though since theres no separate lot (or at least not that I know of) but if you manage to find a space, you're very lucky.

This Ann Sather location is just east of the Belmont “L” station shared by the Red and Brown lines. It is very crowded at weekend brunch times. The cinnamon rolls are famous, and they are sweet but not too sweet. You know this place has Swedish roots because you can get Swedish pancakes with lingonberry sauce for breakfast and Swedish meatballs for dinner. They actually have a parking lot in the back, a big plus in busy Lakeview.
