El Tapatio Café is a fantastic and authentic Mexican restaurant on Ashland. It has a small but usually packed outdoor patio during the summer months, but it's worth the wait to sit outside. The food is delicious and ranges from the exotic to the familiar. My wife, my friend, and I waited about 20 minutes for an outside table on a Saturday night, which wasn't bad considering they filter "waiting" traffic to their sister bar across the street. Great food, good service, and hot salsa!

El Tapatio is the perfect blend of standard Mexican fare with slightly more adventurous options for those who like to experience new flavors and tastes. Although we were told we had a long wait, we were seated in a quaint outdoor patio within 20 minutes. Be sure to try their sangria-- it's delicious! This restaurant appeared to be quite popular with the local crowd, so either go early or be prepared to wait awhile across the street at their sister cantina.
