I used to work about a block from Brett's and had on problem eating there upwards of three times a week. Though their menu is mostly sandwich, burgers, and soups, what they do have is completely stellar. Everything is made fresh when you order, to your exact specifications. The service is friendly and quick (and remembers your orders if you're a regular). Though it's "diner" food, it's very classy and definitely suited for downtown. Additionally, they have a decent coffee selection and their breakfast is every bit as quick and delicious as their lunch (particularly their seasoned hash browns). The atmosphere is low-key and comfortable, sort of artsy, but not over the top. My only complaint is there isn't a lot of seating, but as far as food and service goes, they're out of this world.
