I just heard on the radio yesterday that this great Chicago institution is closing in Feburary '06. That is so sad; another fixture of Chicago bites the dust. This is a wonderful German-American restaurant that I have been going to since I was a kid. Its downtown location made it convenient for lunch while visiting the Art Institute or anything else downtown, or dinner before the theatre. It has real career waiters, walnut walls, classic moderately priced meals. It is one of those reliable old places that always produced a good meal at a good price with decent service. I remember going to the bar when I turned old enough to drink and happily quaffing the house dark beer. Go quick! http://berghoff.com/
