How can the face of a company be someone devoid of any interpersonal skills? How can the person managing an apartment building with multiple units be such a poor communicator? She is rude. She does not accomodate even small requests. These are not isolated incidents, but a pattern that I have experienced firsthand, as well as hearing this from other tenants. And I'm not the one calling her or the company for requests. She is calling me and then she is rude about it. Cedar Realty needs to reconsider who is the face of their company. After living there, I was ready to buy my own place, but I did not look through them because of what a poor experience I had just renting from them.
Pros: none!
Cons: property manager has no interpersonal skills

I live in the James building on Paulina.It is clean and priced at a comfort level.
The heat is free and more than adequate.It's a big building but noise is kept to a minimum.I have never had a problem that was not addressed in an immediate and
pleasant way. I recommend this building to anyone who wants a nice affordable apartment.

I just moved into the James Building which is on Paulina.
My experience with the office from Pat who took care of my
lease and answered all my questions to the owner Al who I met when
I signed the lease was very pleasant.
You get a little lease packet with everything you need to know.
Including the gas and electric company numbers.
The building from outside is actually quite beautiful with
an English garden setting.
They made a frantic time calming and extended not just common
courtesy but open friendliness. I think they are great.

The building manager employed by Cedar Realty (Sandy P.) is often non-responsive to maintenance requests and passes blame onto the owner. The owner (Al LaBunski) is even more unresponsive and passes blame onto the building manager. In short, it takes a lot of initiative on the tenants part to get anything repaired. Most of the time (at least in my experience), it takes getting nasty, withholding rent, and faxing in 14-day and 24-hour lease termination notices to get anyone's attention.
It's a shame b/c the building is lovely and in a wonderful location, but those things come at too high of a cost.

This is a Family owned Realty Company.They used to be on Southport and Roscoe.I was looking for an apartment that takes BIG dogs.They did'nt have one, but they took the time to look some up for me and the whole place seemed to be full of very friendly and interesing folks. If I decide to buy a condo this will be the first place I go to.My friend actually lives in a building that they manage on Paulina and she thinks as landlords they are the greatest. Personable staff, comfortable setting and really friendly and helpful.
I rate them great!
Pros: Friendly, convient, helpful to an extreme
Cons: Don't rent to dog owners

Cedar Realty is extremely responsive and helpful. The building I'm currently in is managed by them; Cedar Realty and the building owner work together to ensure the building is clean, safe, and in good repair at all times.
Each month, they also send a rent "invoice," a great reminder for me to send a check (I need it!). Along with the invoice, they sometimes send information on real estate for sale through Cedar Realty.
The leases also expire only twice a year, in April and September. So if you start renting in Feburary, your lease does not end until April of the next year.
