Navy Pier 9/28/2007

I kind of like The Navy Pier, but isn't it really just one big fast food restaurant with a few games tossed in. Its burgers, tex mex and minutes of family fun!! I love chicago, but you cannot have an attraction with a huge Mcdonalds in the middle more

Looks a lot cooler than it ends up being 5/30/2007

The ferris wheel is pretty much the only reason to go to Navy Pier. I was visiting this past weekend, and on a rainy Saturday, we headed inside to avoid getting wet. The stores are sub-par and were perhaps too reminiscent of the usual St. Augustine tourist fare, and it seemed that half of the place was made up of convention space. The water taxi's and boats are cool. We saw the fireworks that night that were incredibly low and were poorly set to some pretty quiet music. Perhaps this was due to the poor weather earlier. So, considering how great it looks from the top of the ferris wheel, there just isn't that much to do at Navy Pier. more

Navy Pier 5/28/2006

Navy Pier is amazing. All my friends who come visit Chicago always want to go to Navy Pier. Its an actual pier that is along Lake Michigan. This pier has many different things for you to do. They have a bunch of great restaurants, little booths to shop at, boating rides, a little amusement park, a theater, and so much more. No matter what age you are or what your interests are, you will definitely be able to find something interesting and fun to do here. more

A Fun Place to Spend the Day 5/28/2006

Going to Navy Pier is a fun trip. There is so much to do at Navy Pier. You can ride boats, go on the gigantic ferris wheel, eat, or take a stroll by Lake Michigan. It is a perfect place for a perfect day. My kids enjoy it as well. I really like the ferris wheel. You can see the entire city from top. It looks best at night time. The boats are fun to go on too. There are many different boats to choose from for any type of mood. The shops and stalls here are real nice as well. There are some shops here which sell real pretty scarves and handbags where I usually cannot find anywhere else. more

Fireworks 5/27/2006

All through out the summer they shoot off fireworks at the pier. They also synchronize music to go with the fireworks, which is fun to grab a seat and listen to. If you have a view out that way from home, like I do, then you can turn into the radio station and enjoy it from home. The pier is a great place to hang out with friends. You don't need to spend money to enjoy yourself here. more

Fun Place 5/18/2006

I love going here in the summer time. Its a fun place to eat, shop, and ride one of the famous boats. My favorite boat is the sea dog. Its a spead boat that rides for about an hour. Its fun to go on it at night or even in the day. Also, the fireworks here are amazing. Navy Pier is fun for all people..of all ages! more

Navy Pier 5/4/2006

Come take a stroll here in the summer and you will enjoy it so much. There's a stop for a free trolley near where I work, so in the summer time I love to hop onto the trolley and take a ride over to Navy Pier. There's lots of places to eat at and you can grab a quick lunch and stroll the pier and enjoy great views of the city and the lake. They have little shops here too that sell very unique items that you won't find anywhere else. I'm not a fan of this place during the winter time, because I find it a bit chilly, but there is always the IMAX theater, which is indoors and well insulated. more

Fun place to visit! 5/4/2006

We have a good time when we come here just looking at the water and the boats and ships that are docked and out on the lake. Beyond that - there is the giant ferris wheel, lots of shopping options, the IMAX theater (cool!) and tons of other things to do! There is a really great kids' museum here at Navy Pier as well! Also there are lots of restaurants to choose from when you get tired of shopping and need a pick-me-up! We went during the winter once and that was really neat as well - lots of decorations and fun things to see and do. more

Fun place for the entire family 4/26/2006

I think Navy Pier is a great place to visit for the entire family. We always take the kids here during the summer because they really enjoy all the activities this place has to offer. There's a nice little carnival in the middle, with kiddie rides like the swings and the merry go round. There's also lots of places to eat that the whole family can enjoy, like the haagan daaz cafe. Its a great place to take kids and its equally enjoyable for adults as well because there is so much to do. You will run into a lot of tourists, but that's just part of the excitement of this place. more

Not much to it... 3/29/2006

I know a big tourist attraction in Chicago is Navy Pier, and it is a nice place to go in the summer when you can take a long walk along the pier. However, in the winter, there's not much to it. I'm kind of surprised they don't have more upscale stores - the closest they have to an upscale store is Build-A-Bear (which is a cute place!). I know there is talk about redoing lots of the pier so it's a little more interactive, which I look forward to. If you have young kids, it would be great - the children's museum, Build-A-Bear, McDonalds - but for adults they should definitely increase the activities and shopping. more

meet friendly strangers 3/26/2006

What a beautiful sight, as you're driving down LSD at night. Obviously Navy Pier is going to attract visitors, and its usually full of out of towners. But you know what, I find its actually a good place to meet friendly strangers. I've gone there a few times and just interviewed people about their vacation and what they think about our city. I usually meet very approachable people here. On the other hand most of the food and merchandise is very commercial and overpriced. I don't think its an accurate reflection of Chicago's culture. But then again, its not supposed to be. I love going here early in the morning when nobody's around, just to get a good look at the lake and feel the breeze. Its a great place for many reasons and definitely worth the visit. more

Fun at The Pier 3/26/2006

Folks of all ages and from all walks of life visit here. Everyone can find something they enjoy here. There are alot of restaurants, IMAX theater is here, boats and sightseeing cruise ships are docked here, the famous ferris wheel is here etc... An awesome place to take photos and to take a stroll up and down the pier. Even with all the activity the seagulls aren't afraid to greet you and squak for food. They will be delighted if you throw them a french fry. I have seen (and heard) some very talented musicians perform at their beer garden. I have also attended concerts in their main ballroom. A very special place indeed. more

Play tourist for a day 3/20/2006

The majority of people who come here are tourists, especially with their families. You have to be in the mood to deal with a crowd, kids, strollers, and people who just have absolutely no idea where they're going. If you're feeling adventurous and/or patient, you can have a good time at Navy Pier. There are some good restaurants and bars. In the summer there are fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday nights, and there are several cruise lines that give various cruises along Lake Michigan which are always fun. more

Navy Pier is too popular 3/19/2006

Even though I am not crazy about the crowds and the ultra-commercial aspects, we are fortunate to have a place like Navy Pier. The walk along the water is invigorating and you can enjoy some spectacular scenery around the lakefront. It really is a mecca for tourism, with restaurants, games, stores, boat rides, and even convention and meeting space. more

Early Morning For The Romantics 3/17/2006

I used to live right by here, and would go jogging every morning to the tip of the pier. When the sun rises you can usually find the romantics sitting out there having a cup of coffee with a friend. This is the only time when the pier is quiet and not full of all the tourist attractions. If you go, please keep the peace. The rest of the time this place is a lot of fun. When summer hits make sure to take advantage of the miniature golf. more

Try the ferris wheel! 3/8/2006

Navy Pier sort of defines Chicago. The pier gives not only a fantastic view of the beautiful city, but offers lots of things for people to do while they visit. I personally love the huge ferris wheel here. Go on a nice warm night with that special someone and enjoy the smooth ride and the breathtaking views it gives. Lots of great places to eat. Though many people claim this place is "touristy," I believe it is one of the greatest ammenities our city has to offer, not only to tourists, but to residents too. more

Something for Everyone 1/29/2006

Navy Pier is to be commended by this reviewer for having a little something for everyone. Granted, parking on Navy Pier is expensive, and it's not the easiest thing to take public transit out to the Pier, but it's all worth it. The view of the city at night from the top of the Ferris wheel is unparalleled, and strolling along the Pier on an uncrowded evening is simply magical. Although summer afternoons and evenings pack the pier with tourists, this local enjoys the off-season just as much. Logistically speaking, you've got plenty of food options, ranging from McDonald's to formal seafood restaurants. Bathrooms are hidden along the pier corridors, and plenty of fun houses, simulators, and games will keep the kids entertained. more

Fun times on the Pier 1/13/2006

Navy Pier has become one of Chicago's major tourist attractions. One of the jewels in this spot is a beautiful auditorium at the end of the pier. There is a major art show that comes here in May where galleries from all over the world exhibit their art. It is a great setting for art, and when your eyes need a rest you can walk outside and chill looking at the lake and the boats and the skyline. Anytime of the year though there is activity here, restaurants, shops, theaters, etc. It is worth a visit; even as a Chicago native I usually have fun when I come here. Joe's BeBop cafe is just one of the many places worth visiting. http://www.navypier.com/ more

Giant Flies 12/21/2005

Navy Pier is the ideal tourist location but it is not so ideal when you live in Chicago. Personally, I find the entire place to be very overrated. Yes, there is a Ferris Wheel and a Merry Go Around but that means nothing to those of us who've already been on it and are no longer 5 years old. The stores inside are mediocre, the food is expensive. I must say that the crystal garden is very entertaining but even that gets old. In the winter, its freezing cold. In the summer, theres tons of people and giant flies that bite. Stay on the beach. more
