If you need a massage, go to Anne! I first met her at the Old Town Salon 1800 (where I go for many services), but recently she started working at the Armitage location. My back was in so much pain, and Anne sat down with me to ask questions to figure out what was going on. The massage was really intense, but i walked out feeling like a new person! Now i go there every 3 weeks to see her. If you're in pain, go to see Anne! She'll fix you!
Pros: Best massage I've ever had
Cons: I wish I could get one every week!

Rebecca gave me the best facial of my life! She was kind of professional and cared about me and my skin concerns. I fell asleep a few times during the scalp massage. Also got an awesome foot massage! My skin still looks great!!! I would come daily if I could afford it!
Pros: The most relaxing facial!
Cons: Needing to dig up quarters for parking meter.

I am 8 months pregnant and someone recommended I go to see Maribeth at Salon 1800 for a Prenatal Massage. This was my first time at their new location on Armitage. The space is large and lofty. The staff was friendly. The Massage Therapist greeted me , showed me the changing rooms, showers, and bathroom facilities. The massage was wonderful!! It was deep tissue and she really focussed on my hips, lower back and upper thighs. I felt so much beter that evening and was able to sleep comfortably. She recommendd coming once a month but was not pushy. If your pregnant, uncomfortable and want some relief this is the girl to go to!

I'm a salon snob--I'll admit it! As well as a frequenter at a number of fantastic salons across the city. I am in sales and need to look fantastic 24-7. I work downtown and there are a number of spas there that make my cut with their combo of customer service, top notch facilities and excellent results. I live in Lincoln Park and for awhile was a Salon 1800 regular since it is in the 'hood. Took a long break from them after suffering as their staff continually turned over; their receptionists demonstrated unprofessional attitudes and ability to mess up appointments even though they have a sophisticated booking system, etc. Well, a visit to their new digs on Armitage revealed that nothing had changed but the space. The prices are as high as the best in the city but the bad attitudes at the front desk and a prevailing lack of concern for a client's experience are still there. I never feel pampered there--just annoyed! A few of the nail service providers who are good are still there but so are others who are absolutely awful--from both the technical and professional attitude POVs! I will now go as infrequently as possible. When I will go: When my nails need to be done but not immediately prior to a special event or a big pitch. I have had several booking mess ups--the most recent a month ago and the day before a big out-of-town pitch. They offered no apologies, did not refer me to a manager, NOTHING! I had to have my assistant hustle to book me in a salon in Indianapolis which further stressed me out and I will never forgive them for this stupid mistake! After all, it wasn't the first time!
Pros: ambience and location
Cons: unreliability, turnover, lack of professionalism and common conventions of customer service

I started going to Salon 1800 on Armitage about 10 years ago. A regular manicure every week, 8-10 pedicures a year, a handful of bikini waxes and a few haircuts (until I caught on--the stylists turn over constantly!). What did I get for all of this? Few perks and quite a few headaches. Several times appointments were messed up and almost without fail the receptionists were rude both booking appointments over the phone AND in person. I stopped for awhile but, gosh-darn it!--it is right in my neighborhood so I decided to give it another try since they are in a new space. Results: Made bikini wax appointment. They did call me day before to confirm my appointment. Called me back that night to tell me that, while my appointment was booked at 1pm, my service provider wouldn't be in until 4pm and no one else was available. They assumed that I would just take the later appointment which I could not swing. I was leaving the next day for vacation. They were completely unmoved by my dilemma and offered nothing in return. I played the role of Miranda in the Sex and the City movie upon arriving at my destination in that sexy bikini ruined by hovering, creeping, slithering and sneaking hair serpents crawling out onto my upper thighs! Spent the next vacation day in a Miami Beach salon when I could have been poolside! My friends laugh at me, asking, Why didn't you catch on earlier? The rest of us did! Yes, it is true. The salon used to be almost impossible to book an appointment in. Now, fewer service providers and booking is a breeze (once you get past the snotty receptionists AND when you take the leap of faith that your appointment will be honored!) So, Ta Ta! Salon 1800. I'm joining my community and friends who learned the Salon 1800 scam long ago. I'm done with you for good!

I am a teacher and don't have a lot of time pamper myself. However, my health was beginning to suffer. I couldn't sleep because my neck and back were so stiff and achy. (Stress from those darn kids!) I was in major pain and popping pills to sleep.
My friend told me I should get a massage, and not just any massage, a massage from Elizabeth(armitage location). What a great recommendation!!! She gave me an incredible massage and I walked away relaxed and completely rejuvinated. I felt like a new woman!!!
What I really liked about Elizabeth is that she took the time to ask what exactly was wrong and where I hurt. I felt like she cared and genuinely wanted to help me with my pain. After Elizabeth's massage I was able to sleep soundly for once!!!
Thank you Elizabeth for an incredible massage!!! I will definitely be back again!!!

Inga at Salon 1800 in Lincoln Park is by far the best esthetician I have ever seen. She remembered me after the first visit and is always so friendly. She makes easy conversation which makes me feel extremely comfortable, especially considering the circumstances. The best part of the experience with Inga is that it is the least pain I have ever felt with a wax before. She guides me through a few breaths and immediately makes the area she has waxed feel better. I would recommend Inga to anyone, whether an experienced waxer or a newbie. Thanks Inga!

I would never go back. receptionist very pretentious and acted like i was a moron because i didn't know i need to put on my own smock and venture to the waiting area in the BACK of the salon even though it was my first time there. my stylist was really nice and we had good conversation but my low-lights that i said i wanted a "dark auburn" turned out orange. took 3 hours for a cut and highlight and i have short hair. find another place- too expensive for the poor quality i received.
Pros: Close to EL... not much of a pro there
Cons: Pretentious, expensive, poor results for price
