This is a great place to go on the weekend, but you better be prepared to be packed in with all other people who also think that it is a great weekend place. There is a dress code, but it brings a quality to the jazz bands that you can catch there. The atmosphere is serene, and the people who work here make you feel at home.

Spin is a gay nightclub. But it is still lots of fun even if you are straight. While it obviously attracts the gay crowd, it is very open to everybody and you will find people of all orientations here. They have some fun things going on here and I think the best is probably their one dollar drink nights on Thursdays. Overall, this is a very energetic and happening place that is fun for anybody and everybody.

When I was in college, my buddies and I loved to go here to dance the night out. This place is your ultimate dance club. They have awesome DJs here and they play all the cool techno and clubby music. The crowed is super cool and energized so be ready to dance, dance, and dance. The cover charge here is pretty low so it attracts a lot of students. They also have a bar area which is a great place to take a break from the music and grab a drink and chat it up with a few people.

I either eat in or do carry-out from Silver Clour 2-3 times a month, and really do love it. I'm not a huge fan of eating out, but the laid-back atmosphere at silvercloud usually gets me over any reservation I might have to go out for a quick meal or for a few drinks.
The patio is great in the summer, but the inside is really wonderful all year long - the booths are really comfortable, and look pretty nice as well. The bar is very cool, the bartenders are almost always friendly, and the staff is usually excellent.
I recommend eating: 1) their chicken pasta dish 2) quesadillas 3) cheeseburger & tatter tots 4) macaroni and cheese. Everything on the menu is pretty much awesome.
for drinks: 1) Poolside (my favorite) 2) bloody mary (which reminds me, their breakfast is really good too) 3) the white belgian ale (they have a great selection of beer on tap.
Hope that helps, enjoy!

More
Rosa’s Blues Lounge is a legendary blues joint that is a bit off the beaten path for out-of-towners, but it’s worth a visit if you’re a fan of blues, and it’s especially recommended if there’s someone you want to see playing on a given night. The friendly and boisterous atmosphere inside the lounge belies the somewhat quiet and rather non-touristy neighborhood it sits in. It’s a compact and intimate interior, with the bar on the left side, tables scattered about, and a small stage in the back—in other words, you’ll definitely get to slide up close and enjoy the music. Yes, the cover charge is sometimes steep depending on who’s playing, but the payback is that the performances feel much more raw and unfiltered (including in some cases lyrics not meant for children, if you get my drift)—just the way the blues was meant to be heard. After midnight, the band(s) of the evening often “loosen up” their set lists, engaging in lots of improvisation as well as jamming with musicians from other blues clubs who’ve popped into Rosa’s for a late-night visit.

Since I don't live in the city, I only get a chance to go to the Smart bar about 2-3 times a year, usually after a Metro show.
This is a great little club, with dark lightening and cool little booths for sitting. The DJ's can be very good, or they can be really bad, it all depends.
They have a good booze selection, though it is, of course, expensive. It usually costs 10 bucks to get in, i believe, unless you have tickets for a Metro show for that night.
The club can get very crowded and smoky.
The lead singer of smashing pumpkins brought Robert Smith of the Cure here last year.
Oh ya, last time I was there it was about 70% men to 30% women.

More
As far as live shows go, the Metro is the best live performance venue in Chicago—it’s big enough to attract major big-name acts, but it’s small enough so you can see those acts up close and personal. I recently saw Jimmy Eat World at the Metro, and it was such a major improvement than when I saw them at the Riviera Theatre (another venue in Chicago)—you’re awestruck at the fact that you can get so much closer to the band no matter where you might be standing. In addition, the booking is sharp, meaning that many up-and-coming bands (especially local talent) play their first “big shows” at the Metro before blowing up nationally—so if you want so say that you saw a band before they became hugely famous, the Metro is often your last chance to do so. One small tip: If you plan on hitting a show during a Cubs night game (Wrigley Field is down the block), forget about finding easy parking—you’ve been warned…

This is a nice place to stop by for a beer or two. But make sure to go here early in the night, because as it gets later, this place becomes more and more crowded. Crowded to the point that you have to actually wait in lines. I like their chocolate martinis here so I like to stop in here every once in a while to enjoy that and the great atmosphere and service. Otherwise, I would steer clear of here because of the crowds and the long waits.

Le Passage is a great place to dance! There are two large rooms and usually one has techno and the other hiphop. The music is always excellent. The cover is steep ($20), but it's pretty easy to get a card to get in free if you're a girl. The only downsides are sometimes it's too crowded and hot.
