Rosa’s Blues Lounge is a legendary blues joint that is a bit off the beaten path for out-of-towners, but it’s worth a visit if you’re a fan of blues, and it’s especially recommended if there’s someone you want to see playing on a given night. The friendly and boisterous atmosphere inside the lounge belies the somewhat quiet and rather non-touristy neighborhood it sits in. It’s a compact and intimate interior, with the bar on the left side, tables scattered about, and a small stage in the back—in other words, you’ll definitely get to slide up close and enjoy the music. Yes, the cover charge is sometimes steep depending on who’s playing, but the payback is that the performances feel much more raw and unfiltered (including in some cases lyrics not meant for children, if you get my drift)—just the way the blues was meant to be heard. After midnight, the band(s) of the evening often “loosen up” their set lists, engaging in lots of improvisation as well as jamming with musicians from other blues clubs who’ve popped into Rosa’s for a late-night visit.

The lighting at Katerina's draws you in and makes you want to stay. It's very warm and cozy, and inspires the many music shows that they host. Katerina's serves excellent coffee drinks and desserts that are so good I've never tried their regular food. They have a group of tables and chairs as well as a few couches and more relaxed seating. The decor is very eclectic and welcoming. You can often sip your coffee or martini (yeah they've got alcohol too) while listening to some good live jazz. The place has a very laid back European type vibe, I love it!

The Hot House is a unique entertainment venue, bringing in musical acts from around the world. The shows here are not what is offered in the rest of the city. The facilities are nice and usually not too crowded. New Year's Eve here is fun as well. The crowd is a nice mix of people.

I used to hang out here when I could still stand breathing 2nd hand smoke. Now they are passing city ordinances outlawing smoking so I may check back.
I always came for the 5pm set but they do have a 9pm set too.
I had some great times here listening to Ears, Jo Belle, Eric Schneider, and all the cats from out of town who sat in and played. Now Jo Belle has moved on, some of the great players have passed on, and life goes on.
Eric Schneider is still here on Wednesday nights. The great John Bany and some of his kin still play regularly too. You can be sure there will be great jazz on any night; the personnel changes frequently.
Pretty decent bar food too.

I stopped into Flounders to have lunch on a Thursday afternoon. I found the service to be very kind and welcoming and I also found the buffalo wings, which is specifically what I went there for, to be delicious. There was ample blue cheese and plenty of celery. The wings were not overdone with sauce but adequately brushed with the buffalo sauce. I saw other diners around me eating sandwiches and I would like to go back to try other menu items.
I was really impressed with the wings and the friendly and considerate bartender who also served as the waitress. There were a few tables of lunch patrons but not overly crowded. If you are desiring wings, I'd go to Flounders and sample theirs.

This club has been around as long as I can remember and was voted best Blues club by the Chicago Music Awards. They have had visits from members of the Stones and The Who. Fairly big name Blues perfomers grace the stage here as well as lesser known folks just starting their career. I feel a bit sorry for people that live on the same block as this club beause it can really get wild here and there is only street parking that everyone is fighting for.

I have been here a couple times and enjoyed it. The venue is good for rocking bands - it just has the feel of rock in it. The bar staff is very nice and so are most of the people who work there. I had a nasty run in with one of the guys because I was trying to get in to see a friend of mine play (he had left a ticket for me, but the guy couldn't find it). He was pretty rude, but I'm sure he has people trying to sneak in all the time.

But British enough for me! This place has good British-inspired bar food and serves pretty late. The front room seems like it can get pretty full, but there's another room in the back with plenty more TVs and another bar. The servers are attentive and friendly.
Also, you'd expect to see plenty of soccer games in a place like this, and you do - But I also see a lot of rugby games on TV which is really interesting to watch. I can't think of any where else I've ever seen rugby on TV, so The Globe gets props for that.

Since I don't live in the city, I only get a chance to go to the Smart bar about 2-3 times a year, usually after a Metro show.
This is a great little club, with dark lightening and cool little booths for sitting. The DJ's can be very good, or they can be really bad, it all depends.
They have a good booze selection, though it is, of course, expensive. It usually costs 10 bucks to get in, i believe, unless you have tickets for a Metro show for that night.
The club can get very crowded and smoky.
The lead singer of smashing pumpkins brought Robert Smith of the Cure here last year.
Oh ya, last time I was there it was about 70% men to 30% women.
